Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free via slight or very slight slopes.
  • The Nucleus Building has 1 entrance providing step-free level access to the ground floor.
    There are 2 link entrances from the KB Café (Noreen and Kenneth Murray Library building) and the King's Buildings House which provide access to the ground floor.
  • The entrances are signed with the building name.
  • The link entrance from the Noreen and Kenneth Murray Library has 10 steps, or a platform lift.
    The link entrance from the King's Buildings House has manual doors, with 9 steps or a platform lift.
    There is a slight slope after the steps and platform lift.
  • There is a link entrance to the Noreen and Kenneth Murray Library on the first floor.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building via slight slopes and lifts.
  • On the ground floor there is a slight ramp to access the Nucleus café.
    The ramp bypasses three clearly marked steps.
  • The Basement cannot be accessed by the main staircase, but can be accessed by the main lifts.
  • Step-free level access to the upper ground floor (a small staff area) is via the goods lift.
  • Floor surfaces along circulation routes on the ground floor are hard and smooth.
    There are some floor surfaces which are patterned or have a shiny finish.
  • There are study/resting areas in all circulation areas throughout the building apart from the Basement.
    There is a mixture of seating types in these areas.
  • Limited wayfinding signage is provided on all levels.
    Floor information signs are provided on each floor.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • There are 6 toilets with adaptations.
  • Toilets with adaptations are located on the basement, ground, first, second and third floors.
  • All toilets with adaptations have a right hand transfer, except on the third floor which has a left hand transfer.
  • The male and female toilet facilities are located on the basement, ground, and first floors.

  • There is a lowered section at the desk.
  • The height of the lowered section is 75cm.
  • The reception has a television which may affect the ability of someone to lip read.
