Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free via slight slopes.
  • The Bernard Katz Building has one main entrance that is in use.
  • Other entrances into the building are not used and signage is shown at the entrances directing visitors to the main entrance.
  • The main entrance is signed as the Bernard Katz Building.
  • The main entrance provides step-free access to the reception foyer on level 2.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors.
  • There is a slight ramp leading to rooms 2.19 - 2.21 on level 2.
  • Level 2 offices 2.1 - 2.9 are located at the rear of the building and they are accessed by a staircase from level 1 of the building.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish.
  • There are resting areas in some circulation and lobby areas with a mixture of seating.
  • Overhead and wall mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
  • There are manual doors in some corridor and lobby area.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

    • There are 3 toilets with adaptations.
    • Toilets with adaptations are located on level 2 to the rear of the building and on levels 1 and 4.
    • The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.
    • The female step-free standard toilet facilities are located on level 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6.
    • The male step-free standard toilet facilities are located on level 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Entrance

  • This entrance is located at the front of the building.

Reception

  • The reception is located to your left on entrance.

  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise in this area.

Lift (Main)

  • The lift surveyed is located in the reception area, to your right on entrance.
  • The distance from the main entrance is 5m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access.
  • The levels 2, 4, 5 and 6 are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a high visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The weight limit for the lift is 630kg.
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 100cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 100cm (width) x 140cm (depth).
