Overview

    • The Medical School Building is a large building with 7 floors.
    • There is 1 main lift, 1 platform lift and 3 staircases within the building.
    • The floors are signed as Basement, Ground Floor, First Floor, Second Floor, Third Floor, Fourth Floor, Fifth Floor and Sixth Floor.
    • There is internal step-free access between the Medical School Building, Rockefeller Building and Paul O'Gorman Building.
    • There is not a toilet with adaptations available.

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free level access.
  • The Medical School Building has one external entrance and thirteen internal entrances from the Cruciform Building, Rockefeller Building and the Paul O'Gorman Building.
    The external entrance provides stepped access to the ground floor.
    The double doors are manual.
  • The main entrance is signed as Medical School Building.
  • The main entrance provides stepped access to the ground floor.
  • The internal entrances are as follows:
    Basement
    Access from the Cruciform Building is ramped with an automatic door.
    Access from the Paul O'Gorman Building is level with a manual door.

    Ground Floor
    Access from the Rockefeller Building is stepped with a manual door.
    Access from the Paul O'Gorman Building is level with a manual door.

    First Floor
    Access from the Paul O'Gorman Building is level with a manual door.

    Second Floor
    Access from the Paul O'Gorman Building is level with a manual door.

    Third Floor
    Access from the Rockefeller Building is stepped with a manual door.
    Access from the Paul O'Gorman Building is level with a manual door.

    Fourth Floor
    Access from the Rockefeller Building is level with a manual door.
    Access from the Paul O'Gorman Building is level with a manual door.

    Fifth Floor
    Access from the Rockefeller Building is level with a manual door.
    Access from the Paul O'Gorman Building is level with a manual door.

    Sixth Floor

Getting Around

  • There is step-free access around the majority of the building.
  • Access along the third floor corridor is via 4 clearly marked steps with a handrail on both sides. Alternatively there is a platform lift to overcome the steps.
  • There are steep ramps along the basement corridor from the Cruciform Building.
    There are 7 steps with a handrail on the left along the ground floor corridor from the Rockefeller Building.
    There is 1 step without a handrail along the second floor corridor.
    There are 3 steps without handrails along the third floor corridor.
    There are 7 steps without a handrail along the fourth floor corridor.
    There are 9 steps with a handrail on the right along the fifth floor corridor.
  • Floor surfaces along the circulation routes are hard and smooth with a shiny finish. There is a patterned surface in the lift lobby on the ground floor.
  • There are no resting areas in any of the circulation and lobby areas.
  • Wall mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
  • There are manual doors along the circulation routes throughout the building.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

    • The shared step-free toilet facilities are located on the fourth and sixth floors.
    • The male and female step-free toilet facilities are located on the first, second, third, fourth and fifth floors.

Parking (On-Street Parking)

  • Drop-off Point View
    • There is not a designated drop-off point available.
  • On-street Parking View
    • On-street designated Blue Badge parking and standard parking is available .
    • The on-street designated Blue Badge parking bays are located on Huntley Street.
    • The Blue Badge bays are clearly marked and signposted.
    • Charges apply for on-street standard parking between Monday to Saturday, 8:30am to 6:30pm. Maximum stay is 2 hours.

Entrance (Main Entrance)

  • This entrance is located at the front of the building on Huntley Street.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There are 4 steps with no handrails.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 16cm.
  • The depth of the steps is between 30cm and 45cm.
  • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 99cm.
  • There are double manual doors at this entrance, however one door is locked.
  • The doors open away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 83cm.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is a second set of double manual doors .
  • The second set of doors open both ways.
  • The width of the opening is 164cm.
  • The second set of doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.

Lift (Main)

  • The lift surveyed is located ahead from the main entrance.
  • The distance from the main entrance is 3m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access.
  • The basement, ground, first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a low visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a medium visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 70cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 91cm (width) x 120cm (depth).
  • The internal lift control buttons have tactile markings and a medium visual contrast.

  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access and manual doors.
  • The lift door has a low visual contrast.
  • The lift does not have a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
  • None of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 75cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 75cm (width) x 120cm (depth).
  • The internal lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.

  • The steps are unmarked and have a handrail on the right going up.
  • The handrail is easy to grip.
  • The handrail covers the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrail does not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.

Stairs (Fourth Floor to Fifth Floor)

  • The stairs surveyed are located at the rear of the building.
  • There is a single manual door to access the stairwell.
  • The fourth and fifth floors can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 17 steps between floors.
  • The steps are unmarked and have handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails do not cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
