Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free via a very easy slope.
  • Rayne Institute has two entrances. Both entrances provide step-free access to the ground floor.
    The main entrance has double manual doors.
    The rear entrance has a single manual door.
  • The main entrance is signed as Rayne Building.
    The rear entrance is not signed.
  • The main entrance provides step-free level access to the reception foyer on the ground floor.
  • The rear entrance is located on Mortimer Market and has step-free access via a slight ramp.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors via the lifts.
  • On the ground floor, there is a slight ramp beyond the rear entrance with handrails on both sides.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth with a shiny finish.
  • There are no resting areas along the circulation routes or lobby areas.
  • Wall mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
  • There are manual doors in some corridor and lobby areas.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

    • There is 1 toilet with adaptations.
    • The toilet with adaptations is located on the ground floor.
    • The toilet with adaptations has a left hand transfer space.
    • The female step-free toilet facilities are located on the fourth floor.
    • The male step-free toilet facilities are located on the third floor.
    • The male and female step-free toilet facilities are located on the ground, first and second floors.
  • Washroom and Shower Facilities View
    • Standard shower facilities are located within the standard male toilet on the third floor.

Parking (On-Street Parking)

  • Drop-off Point View
    • There is not a designated drop-off point available.
  • On-street Parking View
    • On-street designated Blue Badge parking is available .
    • The on-street designated Blue Badge parking bays are located on University Street.
    • The Blue Badge bays are clearly marked and signposted.
    • There is standard on-street parking available on Mortimer Market. Charges apply between Monday to Saturday, 8:30am to 6:30pm. Maximum stay is 2 hours.

Entrance (Main Entrance)

  • This entrance is located at the front of the building on University Street.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is step-free access via a very easy slope at the entrance.
  • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 126cm.
  • There are double manual doors at this entrance.
  • The doors open towards you.

  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is a push pad or push button to exit at a height of 145cm.
  • There is a second set of double manual doors .

Reception

  • The reception is located to the left from the main entrance.
  • The distance from the main entrance is 2m.

  • The height of the reception desk is 110cm.
  • There is a lowered section at the desk.
  • The height of the lowered section is 71cm.
  • There is a clearly signed fixed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested, however it was not working at the time of the survey.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise in this area.
  • Some flooring is shiny.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.
  • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre in the seating area (150cm x 150cm).
  • There is space for an assistance dog to rest in the seating area.

  • The chairs are fixed.

Entrance (Ground Floor)

  • This entrance is located beyond the reception area.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 128cm.
  • There are double manual doors at this entrance.
  • The doors open towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 150cm.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is a turnstile to the right of the doors. The width of the turnstile is 50cm.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.

Lift

  • The lift surveyed is located to the left from the main entrance.
  • The distance from the main entrance is 7m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access and manual doors.
  • The basement, ground, first, second, third and fourth floors are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a high visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
  • The majority of the external controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 120cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 130cm (width) x 237cm (depth).

Stairs

  • The stairs surveyed are located at either side of the building.

  • The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 17cm.
  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
  • Lighting levels vary due to the use of large glazed walls.

Kitchen/Dining (Coffee Room)

  • The kitchen/dining area is located on the second floor.
  • There is step-free level access into the kitchen/dining area.
  • There is a single manual door with a high visual contrast.
  • The door has a locked extension leaf.
  • The door opens inwards.
