Route Summary

1 South Building to the Junction

  • On exiting 1 South Building take the path to the left.
  • The surface outside the 1 South Building is block paving which is uneven in places.
  • The surface of the path is concrete and has a moderate gradient. It is very uneven in places with areas of damage that have caused lips on the path surface.
  • Follow the path for 60m until you reach the junction.

2 South Building to the Junction

  • On exiting 2 South Building take the path to the left.
  • The surface of the path is smooth tarmac which is uneven in places and has an easy gradient.
  • The path consists of two slopes with tactile paving.
  • After 15m turn left and continue for another 45m, at which point there are two roads which require crossing. Both roads have dropped kerbs on either side. Tactile paving is located on the near side of the first road and the far side of the second road. The surfaces of the roads are tarmac and concrete.
  • From the second crossing onwards the surface of the path is smooth tarmac and it continues to slope upwards approximately 70m towards the junction.
  • There are a number of dips and uneven surfaces along the path to the junction.

3 South Building to the Junction

  • On exiting the 3 South Building take the path ahead of you.
  • The surface outside the 3 South Building is block paving which is uneven in places.
  • The surface of the path is block paving and has a moderate gradient leading down from the entrance before sloping up toward the crossing.
  • The path leads to a crossing which is approximately 22m from the 3 South Building main entrance.
  • The crossing has dropped kerbs on both sides with tactile paving. There is a lip where the tactile paving joins the tarmac.
  • The dropped kerb is on a steep slope.
  • Continue straight for approximately 70m to the junction.

Junction

  • At the Junction all routes from entrances 1, 2 and 3 South Buildings join.
  • There are two Blue Badge bays located at the junction next to the 1 South Building.

Junction to the Access Road Crossing

  • The surface of the path is smooth tarmac becoming tarmacked shingle as you approach the crossing.
  • The path slopes slightly down towards the access road outside the 6 West South Building.
  • The path is uneven in places.
  • Follow the path for approximately 100m passing the 6 West South building on your left.
  • As you approach the 6 West South Building there are a number of plant pots. The area around them can become slippery when wet.
  • There is a second crossing outside the 6 West South Building.

Access Road Crossing

  • There is a dropped kerb with tactile paving on the near side of the crossing.
  • The surface of the crossing is made up of tarmac and is approximately 42m to the far side.
  • The surface of the crossing is uneven in places.

Access Road Crossing to the University Hall Ramp

  • There is a ramp leading from the access road crossing to the University Hall ramp.
  • The surface of the ramp is concrete with areas of block paving.
  • Sections of the block paving are broken with gaps between the blocks.
  • The ramp is very uneven in places.
  • The ramp is steep.
  • The rear entrance to University Hall is located on the left as you go up the ramp. There is an accessible toilet 5m from the University Hall rear entrance.
  • The entrance is located on a level area halfway up the ramp.

University Hall Ramp to University Hall Entrance

  • There is a path leading from the top of the access road crossing ramp to the University Hall ramp. The surface of path is block paving and is uneven in places.
  • Continue along the path for approximately 18m before turning left and approaching a ramp or 3 steps.
  • The ramp is steep and has a handrail on the left. The ramp overcomes the steps.
  • The block paved surface of the ramp is uneven in places.
  • The steps are clearly marked and medium height.
  • The steps are higher on the side running alongside the ramp.
  • Turn left at the top of the ramp/steps and continue towards the University Hall entrance.

University Hall Main Entrance to the Lift

  • There is a single door within the University Hall foyer, leading to the ground floor corridor and lift. This door is touch sensor operated and opens away from you.
  • At the end of the corridor is another single touch sensor operated door. When you exit this door the lift is on the right.
  • The surface within University Hall is carpet which is level.

The Parade Bar to the Parade

  • As you exit the lift into the Parade Bar the surface changes from lino to an area of wooden flooring and then to carpet as you approach the exit to the building.
  • Turn left when entering the Parade Bar, the exit doors on to The Parade are then 9m straight ahead.
  • The doors are double width and touch sensor operated.
  • There is a lip at either side of the threshold of the door.

The Parade to the Library

  • When entering the parade there is a staircase in front of you with a low concrete bar. Continue ahead for approximately 20m then turn right onto the main parade walkway.
  • The library is then located on the left.
  • The surface of the walkway is made up of large flag stones which are uneven in places.
