Getting Here (To Augustine's Courtyard)

  • By Road View
    • Augustine's Courtyard is located just off St Augustine's Parade on Orchard Lane away from other campus buildings. It can be reached from Denmark Street, College Green or a couple other roads depending on your direction of travel. The building can be accessed by turning left through the entrance gates off Orchard Lane. To get to main campus:
      The University of Bristol campus is located in the St Michael's Hill area of Bristol, in the centre of the City.
      The campus can be reached by using the M32 from the M4 and M5.
      Exit the M4 at junction 19, signed for the M32 and follow the M32 southwest into Bristol.
      Continue onto the A4032, and continue straight on to the A4044 (Bond Street).
      At St James Barton Roundabout take the 2nd exit, onto Marlborough Street (B4051).
      Continue to follow Marlborough Street, passing Bristol Royal Infirmary and Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
      Take the left hand lane and continue straight ahead at the traffic lights.
      Continue along Park Row, and turn right onto Woodland Road.
      Proceed up the hill to the crossroads.
      At the crossroads turn right onto Tyndall Avenue, at the centre of the campus.
    • Parking in university building car parks is by permit only. Blue Badge holders require a permit to park in university car parks. Augustine's Courtyard itself does not have parking readily available.
      Public car parks are available on Frogmore Street.
  • By Bus View
    • The nearest bus stop is The Centre (C8) which is served by buses X1 excel to X9 excel or College Green (P1) which is served by 1, 2 citylines and 2a citylines. Both are within 250m of the building. To main campus: The 9 and 72 bus services from Bristol Temple Meads train station run a combined frequency of every 15 minutes at peak times and stop at Tyndall Avenue on the University campus. The journey takes approximately 20-30 minutes.
      The number 8 service from Bristol Temple Meads train station runs at least every 10 minutes at peak times and stops by The Berkeley pub on Queen's Road opposite the Wills Memorial Building before heading towards the Richmond Building (Students' Union) and Clifton village. The journey takes approximately 20-30 minutes.
      The 1, 2, 3 and 4 and the One bus services all stop in the Park Street, Triangle, Whiteladies Road area, a couple of minutes away from the University.
      The Bristol Unibus service connects the Stoke Bishop halls of residences with the University campus and city centre.
  • By Train View
    • The nearest mainline station to the University is Bristol Temple Meads. Buses and taxis are available from the station to the campus. Bristol Temple Meads is served by CrossCountry, GWR, and South Western Railway.
      The nearest local train station is Clifton Down. There are no direct buses from the station to the campus. Clifton Down is served by GWR.

Building Parking

  • The building does have its own dedicated parking.
  • Building Car Park View
    • The car park can be used by permit holders and staff permit holders.
    • There are no parking charges that apply on the day.
    • The car park is located via a gated entrance off Pipe Lane and down a steep vehicular ramp.
    • The car park type is open air/surface.
    • The car park does not have a height restriction barrier.
    • Designated Blue Badge parking bays are not available.
    • The route from the car park to the building is accessible to a wheelchair user.
    • The car park surface is tarmac.
    • The car park is mostly leased out with only 2 spaces for the University of Bristol. At time of survey these were used by staff so Blue Badge holders would have to call ahead to enquire about a permit if they needed a space close to the building. Without a permit/advanced permission from the university you will not be able to get through the access gates/will receive a fine. There is also an underground car park which is only for staff.

  • Public Car Parks View
    • There is a car park for public use within 200m (approx).
    • There is not a/are not Blue Badge parking bay(s) available within the car park.
    • The name of the car park is Unite House Car Park / Just Park.

    • The car park is open 24 hours and is located within 125m of the building. Booking a space before arrival can be done on the website. Trenchard Street Car Park is also on Frogmore Street and within 150m of the building. There are 8 electrical charging points.

Getting Access to Main Entrance

  • There is a gate that is permanently held open and 106cm wide into the courtyard outside the main entrance (photograph 2).
  • Before this gate, there is no dropped kerb up onto the pavement (approximately 4cm kerb) - shown in photograph 1.
  • Past the gate the surface is cobbled and has slight slopes (photograph 3).
  • There is also access off St Augustine's Parade via slightly sloped cobbled path (photograph 4).
