Access To
- A15 Lecture Theatre is located on the A floor of the Physiology Building, to the left after exiting the platform lift in the reception area.
- View information on Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience (Physiology Building) (opens new tab) .
- The most accessible route has step-free level access, a platform lift, manual doors and shiny flooring.
- There is written text signage on or near the entrance.
- There is step-free level access via lift into A15 Lecture Theatre.
- There are 2 identical stepped, alternative entrance doors at the rear of the lecture theatre.
There are 2 steps at each door, with the highest step at each being 17cm.
The depth of the steps are not between 30 and 45cm.
These are double width, manual doors.
The doors have high colour contrast.
The minimum width of the doors is 132cm. - There is a single manual door which opens towards you.
- The width of the opening is 101cm.
- The door has a low visual contrast.
- There is a second single manual door which opens towards you.
- The width of the opening is 85cm.
- The second door has a high visual contrast.
- There is a small, raised threshold at the second set of doors.
Teaching
- This is a lecture theatre.
- There is step-free level access to the speaker’s area and front row only.
- The following areas have stepped access: all seating behind the first row.
- There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
- There is a clearly signed fixed hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested, however it was not working at the time of the survey.
- There is deep pile carpet in some areas.
- Floor coverings are even with no trip hazards.
- The walls and floor visual contrast varies between low and high.
- Lighting levels vary due to the size of the space.
- There is tiered seating with no handrails at the steps.
- There are no designated spaces for wheelchair users.
- There is not space for an assistance dog to rest.
- Seating available in the room includes: chairs without armrests and benches.
- Furniture available in the room includes: tables and height adjustable desks.
- Some chairs and tables are fixed.
- The surface heights are not suitable for wheelchair users.
- The clear underside space of the surfaces is not suitable for wheelchair users.
- The lectern is height adjustable.
- The lectern cannot be adjusted to a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- This room has a projector screen and a blackboard.
Lift
- The lift surveyed is located to the left and ahead as you enter reception.
- This lift is a platform lift.
- The distance from the main entrance is 7m.
- The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access, manual doors and doors permanently held open.
- The level change at A floor are accessed by this lift.
- The lift door has a high visual contrast.
- The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
- The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a low visual contrast.
- All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The lift door opening width is 74cm.
- The internal dimensions of the lift are 80cm (width) x 141cm (depth).
- The internal lift control buttons have a low visual contrast and tactile markings.
- All of the internal lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The button needs to be pressed constantly when in use.
- Internally the lift has: a separate door to exit and a hearing assistance alarm system.
- Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey, with unshaded light sources.
