Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free level.
  • Kellet Lodge (Accommodation Service) has one main entrance, which provides step-free access to the ground floor, via slight ramps. There is a single manual door at this entrance.
  • The entrance is signed as "University of Cambridge Accommodation Service - Kellet Lodge".
  • The main entrance provides step free access to reception on the ground floor, via slight ramps.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the Ground Floor of the building once inside (the First Floor only houses administration staff offices, with no public or student access).
  • Floor surfaces along circulation routes are carpet and laminate, with the former being low pile and the latter being hard and smooth, with a shiny finish.
  • There is a resting area at Reception, as well as in the Staff Room en route to the Toilet with Adaptations, which can be used by disabled students/visitors if necessary.
  • Wayfinding signage, maps and floor plans are not provided in this building.
  • There are single, manual doors along circulation routes throughout the building, all of which are permanently held open.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • Toilet Facilities View
    • There is 1 toilet with adaptations.
    • The toilet with adaptations is located to the rear right of the building, through the staff room.
    • The toilet with adaptations has a right hand transfer space.
    • The shared toilet facilities are located on the first floor, at the top of the stairs (staff only).
  • Washroom and Shower Facilities View
    • There is also a standard toilet on the first floor (for staff only). Students and visitors should instead use the toilet with adaptations on the ground floor, which is for use by anyone.

Entrance (Main Entrance)

  • This entrance is located at the front of the building, facing Tennis Court Road.
  • The approach to the entrance has uneven surfaces.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is not a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.

  • The width of the opening is 83cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.

Reception (Kellet Lodge (Accommodation Service))

  • The reception is located immediately to the left as you enter through the main entrance.

  • The most accessible route to reception has manual doors and narrow walkways.

  • The height of the reception desk is 73cm.

Toilet with Adaptations (Right Hand Transfer)

    • The toilet surveyed is located to the rear right of the building, through the staff room.
    • The distance from the main entrance is 9m.
    • The most accessible route to the toilet has step-free level access, manual doors and narrow walkways.
    • There is step-free level access into the facility.
    • There is no signage on or near the door.
    • The door opens outwards and has a low visual contrast.
    • The width of the door opening is 76cm.
    • The door has a lever twist lock.
    • Internally the door has a low visual contrast.
    • There is a grab rail on the internal door with a high visual contrast.
  • Dimensions and Features View
    • The dimensions of the cubicle are 156cm (width) x 242cm (depth) and there is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is a lateral transfer space to the right as you face the toilet, however it is obstructed.
