Access To
- The Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Library is located on the first floor of the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies building.

- The most accessible route has step-free level access and a lift.
- There is written text signage on or near the entrance.
- There is step-free level access into the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Library.
- There are double manual doors which open towards you.
- One of the doors was locked at the time of the survey.
- The width of the opening is 70cm.
- The doors have a high visual contrast.
- There are security barriers beyond the entrance with a width of 152cm.
Reception
- The reception is located to your left on entrance.
- The distance from the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Library entrance is 3m.
- There is step-free level access to reception.
- The height of the reception desk is 96cm.
- There is not a lowered section at the desk.
- The reception has glazed screens and patterned/distracting backgrounds.
- There is not a hearing assistance system.
- There is no (or very little) background noise in this area.
- Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.
Library
- There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
- The following areas have stepped access: there are two sets of five 15cm clearly marked steps with no handrails to access the lower part of the library.
- Access throughout the library may include narrow walkways.
- There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
- There is space for an assistance dog to rest in the seating area.
- Seating available in the library includes: chairs with armrests, armchairs and sofas.
- Furniture available in the library includes: tables, coffee tables and long tables.
- Some chairs and tables are fixed.
- Some surface heights are suitable for wheelchair users.
- The clear underside space of some surfaces is suitable for wheelchair users.
