Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free via level access, with some uneven surfaces.
  • Douglas House has 4 entrances.
    All four entrance provides step-free access via a slope to the ground floor.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the ground floor, second floor and the majority of the first floor.
  • On the first floor there is stepped access along the main corridor that gives access to the front area of the building from the lift.
  • Access to the second floor is only via the central staircase and the main lift.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes have a shallow carpet, with the lighting levels varying.
  • There are no resting areas along circulations routes, but there is a seating area within the front entrance lobby.
  • Overhead and wall mounted wayfinding signage is limited throughout the building.

  • The steps are clearly marked and have a handrail that switches sides.

  • The handrail does not cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.

Toilet with Adaptations (Ground Floor - Right Hand Transfer)

    • The distance from the front entrance is 20m.
    • The most accessible route to the toilet has a steep ramp or slope and manual doors.
    • There is step-free level access into the facility.
    • There is Braille, tactile, pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
    • The door opens outwards and has a high visual contrast.
    • The width of the door opening is 100cm.
    • The door has a lever twist lock.
    • Internally the door has a high visual contrast.

  • Dimensions and Features View
    • The dimensions of the cubicle are 180cm (width) x 209cm (depth) and there is not room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is a lateral transfer space to the right as you face the toilet, however it is obstructed.
