Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is level via lift from within the Department of Chemistry (Chemistry Building).
  • There is level access to this entrance via lifts within the Department of Chemistry (Chemistry Building) and the Department of Chemistry (Centre for Molecular Informatics).
  • Department of Chemistry (Chemistry of Health Building) has three entrances
    There is a level access entrance from the first floor of the Department of Chemistry (Chemistry of Health Building) which accesses the first floor of this building.
  • The entrance on the first floor of the Department of Chemistry (Chemistry Building) has signage which reads 'Chemistry of Health Building - Meeting Room'.
    The other two entrances into this building are not signed.
  • The first floor Department of Chemistry (Chemistry Building) entrance has level access via two manual single doors.
    The route to the entrance inside the Department of Chemistry (Chemistry Building) involves the use of lifts.
  • There is a ramped entrance off the Basement floor of the Department of Chemistry (Chemistry Building) which has a manual doors and accesses the Basement in this building.
    There is a stepped entrance from the café area on the second floor of the Department of Chemistry (Centre for Molecular Informatics) which has manual doors and accesses the second floor of this building.
  • There is an external entrance off Union Road which is not in use.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free access throughout the building on all floors.
  • There is a slight slope with handrails on either side on the Basement floor to reach the CMI area.
    The slope at time of survey (23/07/24) was temporary and has a width of 109cm.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish.
  • There are resting areas in some circulation areas with a mixture of seating.
  • There is wall mounted wayfinding signage provided throughout the building.
  • There are manual doors along the corridors throughout the circulation areas.

    • Toilets with adaptations are located along the corridor on the basement, upper ground and first floors.
    • The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.
    • The male and female toilet facilities are located along the corridor of the upper ground and first floors.
  • Washroom and Shower Facilities View
    • The shower facilities which have adaptations are located in the Basement corridor toilet with adaptations.

Entrance (Chemistry Building - First Floor)

  • This entrance is located to the rear right of the Chemistry Building on the first floor.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.

  • The door opens away from you.

Lift

  • The lift surveyed is located to your right on entrance on the ground floor.
  • The distance from Chemistry Building first floor entrance is 15m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access.
  • The basement, lower ground, upper ground, mezzanine, 1 and 2 floors are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a high visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 90cm.

  • Lighting levels were uneven at the time of the survey, with pools of light and shade and unshaded light sources.
