Introduction

  • Services / facilities within the building include The School of Social and Political Sciences, the Strathclyde Centre for Disability Research, staff offices, teaching rooms (levels 4, 7, 9 and 11), Computer Lab A (level 9) and Computer Labs L&M (level 11).
  • The Adam Smith Building is situated on the main campus. The building is divided into the teaching block to the left and the staff offices block to the right.
  • There is a standard lift between the blocks but it does not give level access to levels 7 and 11 of the teaching block.

Getting Here (Gilmorehill Campus)

  • By Road View
    • The University of Glasgow Gilmorehill Campus is located to the west of Glasgow city centre.
      From Carlisle, Newcastle and the south, exit M74 on to the M73, joining the M8 at the Old Monkland junction.
      M8 exits for the University are J18 if travelling from the south, Edinburgh and the north and J19 if coming from Glasgow Airport and the west.
      Other main routes serving the University include Great Western Road (A82, north of campus), Clydeside Expressway (A814, south) and Byres Road (B808, west).
    • Car parking at the University Campuses is limited and a Vehicle Management and Enforcement Scheme is in operation.
      There is limited pay and display on street parking across the campus and a long stay pay and display public car park in Lilybank Gardens.

  • By Bus View
    • Buchanan bus station is the main bus terminus in Glasgow for inter city coach services.
      First Group buses Simplicity services 4 and 4A , bus routes 15 and 370 and Stagecoach bus services X25, X25A, X76 and X77 all stop on University Avenue by the Main Gate opposite the library.
  • By Train View
    • The nearest train station to the University is Partick to the west of the campus approximately 0.9 miles away (18 minutes) via Byres Road. There is step free access throughout the station via lifts and ramp access for trains. There is an induction loop at the booking office.
      The nearest train station to the east of the University campus is Charing Cross approximately 0.9 miles away (19 minutes) from Bank Street via Woodlands Road. There is step free access throughout the station via lifts and ramp access for trains. There is an induction loop at the booking office.
  • By Underground View
    • The nearest underground station is Hillhead on Byres Road. The station has stepped and escalator access to platforms only.

Getting Around

Computer Labs L and M

  • These labs are generally open for students to use. However, they are occasionally used for teaching.
  • They are located at the far end of level 11 in the teaching block, so cannot be accessed via the lift.

Location of Toilet/Changing Facilities

  • Female and male standard toilet facilities are located on level 2 of the teaching block, behind the Janitor's Station, and on level 7 of the teaching block, off the corridor leading to Rooms 711 and 712. There is not lift access to level 7.
  • Female standard toilet facilities are located on levels 5, 8 and 12 of the staff block. These toilets are for staff only.
  • Male standard toilet facilities are located on levels 3, 6, 10 and 13 of the staff block. These toilets are for staff only.
