Summary

Stockwell Street Building to King William Walk

  • From the entrance/exit from Stockwell Building 10 turn right into the passageway and follow the path until it ends (approximately 102m long).
  • The path consists of block paving which is mostly even and narrows to a minimum width of 136m with bollards on the right of the path.
  • The path widens again with a slight slope towards the gates at the exit gates which are held open (signage indicates limited operational hours apply for the passageway).
  • There is a mixture of brick and block paving at the exit/entrance point where the pavement slopes towards the road due to a dropped kerb. This also means there is a slight slope going either direction on the pavement along King William Walk from the path’s exit.
  • Only turn right here along King William Walk to go to the Cooper Powerhouse Building which is approximately 80m along the road. Continue along the route for the main campus.

King William Walk to Romney Road Pedestrian Crossing

  • Turn left at the passageway’s exit, along the pavement with block paving for approximately 44m.
  • There is a payment machine that narrows the pavement to 200cm and outside the Kings Arms Pub there is a service hatch and uneven brick paving which are trip hazards.
  • Just before you reach the intersection with Romney Road (A206) there is a dropped kerb with a steep slope to cross King William Walk. Cross the tarmac road and up the steep dropped kerb the other side.
  • Head straight ahead past a post-box towards the pedestrian crossing on Romney Road. The block paving has a slight slope on this pavement and is uneven in places.
  • The pedestrian crossing has brick paving and tactile paving sloping slightly towards the road. The control panel’s button is 103cm high and the one to the right-hand side has a revolving cone for visually impaired people. Cross the road here.

Romney Road Pedestrian Crossing to the South Gate

  • The crossing on this side has tactile and brick paving with a slight slope towards the road. Turn right along Romney Road and head along the pavement for approximately 92m.
  • As you walk along the road you with be passing the campus on your left on the other side of the fence. The Stephen Lawrence Building is the first one to be passed.
  • A little bit further along is the National Maritime Museum Bus Stop which has seating and a canopy which narrows the pavement to 140cm. The bus routes serving this stop are 129, 177, 180, 188 (24hr), 286, 386, N1 (Night bus).
  • Past this there is a set of gates on your left which lead to the Dreadnought Building
  • Continue past these gates which have dropped kerbs for access from the road causing a steep slope on either side.
  • On approach to the next pedestrian crossing there is a chain-link fence which narrows the pavement to 140cm. Once at the crossing which has tactile and block/brick paving, turn left towards the campus gates. This area has a slight slope towards the road.

South Gate to Queen Mary Court

  • Head through the gates ahead which have bollards with a gap of 90cm in between and 142cm on the sides. Turn right as soon as you are through the gate along the asphalt path with a slight slope.
  • Follow the south path for approximately 200m, first going past King William Court on your left. The asphalt path in uneven with a slight gradient down towards a step down on the left side of the path which has block paving. Stay on the right-hand side of the path as this is step-free.
  • Continue past Queens Gate on your right which has uneven block paving and asphalt. It is opposite the open grassy area on your left.
  • Continue along the asphalt section of the path as you approach and pass the start of Queen Mary Court with pillars on your left.
  • Once past the pillars, the path has a steep gradient towards the building with an uneven drainage channel and even block paving on the left-hand side.
  • To access Queen Mary Court head through the double doors on your left which have a slight lip.
