Summary

West Gate to Dreadnought Building

  • At the entrance there is brick paving with a slight ramp for vehicular access and a mixture of block and brick paving for the pedestrian gated access (158cm wide).
  • Take the gate on the right hand-side and follow the pavement which is even with a very slight slope towards the road.
  • There will be a set of gates on your right which leads to and has signage for the Dreadnought and Stephen Lawrence Buildings. This access has a dropped kerb and so the pavement has a slight slope on either side.
  • Continue along this pavement on College Way and there will be another set of gates within 40m on your right to Stephen Lawrence and the Dreadnought Buildings. There is no dropped kerb so the pavement is slope free.

Dreadnought Building to the Painted Hall

  • Continue along the pavement to a road crossing which has dropped kerbs and metallic tactile paving with a slight slope on either side. This could be slippery in the rain.
  • Cross the asphalt road and continue along the block paved pavement past the courtyard with sculptures on your right.
  • There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving and slight slopes on either side of the asphalt road in front of you. The road itself is slightly sloped with the highest point in the middle.
  • The dropped kerbs are not flush with the ground and could prove to be a trip hazard or access issue as they are 4-5cm high.
  • Once across, there is King William Court on your right with a signed entrance to the Painted Hall within 20m.

Painted Hall to the Chapel Lift Entrance/University Café

  • Continue past the Painted Hall. The pavement consists of block paving with a slight slope towards the central road (College Way).
  • Follow the path round to the left of the stepped access to King William Court which narrows to 160cm initially and then to 124cm due to the undercroft access to King William. The block paving here is slightly uneven.
  • Once past the building, the pavement widens and has a very slight slope towards the road with a set of steps to your right.
  • Continue along the pavement for approximately 34m until you reach the Queen Mary Building. Here the pavement narrows to 154cm and then to 115cm due to the undercroft access. The paving is uneven and may be a trip hazard.
  • Follow the pavement past the stepped access to Queen Mary Court to your right (narrows pavement to 158cm). It is again narrowed within 20m of those stairs to 119cm due to a fenced ramped access. This access is for the Chapel Lift entrance and the university café.

Chapel Lift Entrance/University Café to Queen Mary Accessible Entrance

  • Once past that fenced ramp, you will reach the corner of the Queen Mary building as you face the East Gate car park.
  • The Queen Anne Building is on the opposite side of College Way to Queen Mary and can be reached via the dropped kerbs and slight slopes from the pavements.
  • To continue to the accessible entrance (125m away), turn right at the corner of Queen Mary and head up the pavement alongside the car park on your left. The pavement consists of block paving and has a slight slope.
  • There is still a good width despite some cars overhanging the pavement and various large drains with grills on the right-hand side.
  • Once you have reached the corner of the building, turn right and follow the path to the entrance to Queen Mary Court on your right.
  • At the time of survey (July 2021) the path was blocked by ongoing works. Therefore, to access the door you would need to go up the steep slope onto the uneven asphalt path by the side of the paved one.
