  • There is no entrance and no doors to enter the Pilkington Café - it is located within the open plan atrium on the ground floor of the building, off to the right hand side as you enter through the North Road entrance.

Eating and Drinking

  • Service View
    • This area has a counter where food and drink can be ordered, buffet counters, self service counters, staff who can provide assistance with ordering and numerous seating options.
    • Full table service is available on request only.
    • Menus are wall-mounted, digital, online and displayed on the counter.
    • The following dietary requirements can be catered for: gluten free, dairy free, lactose free, nut allergy, vegetarian and vegan.
    • The following are available: drinking straws, takeaway cups and takeaway cutlery.
    • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • Order and Payment View
    • The self-service counter was surveyed.
    • The counter is located to the right as you enter the cafe.
    • There is step-free level access to the counter.
    • The height of the counter is 90cm.
    • There is not a lowered section at the counter.
    • The counter has a television, glazed screens and patterned/distracting backgrounds.
    • The height of the tray rail is 85cm.
    • There is a touchscreen on the self-service coffee machine with a height range between 126cm and 135cm. There are no accessibility aids at this touchscreen, but staff can assist where necessary.
  • Seating Area View
    • There is step-free level access throughout the seating area.
    • There is some room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is space for an assistance dog to rest.
    • The flooring is shiny.
    • The walls and floor visual contrast varies between low and high.
    • Seating available in this area includes: chairs with armrests, chairs without armrests, armchairs, sofas and stools.
    • Furniture available in this area includes: tables and coffee tables.
    • The surface height of some of the tables is suitable for wheelchair users.
    • The clear height under some of the tables is suitable for wheelchair users.
    • There is background noise in this area which varies depending on the time of day.
    • Lighting levels vary due to the size of the space.
    • There are separate payment counters. One is staffed, while the other two are self-service. The staffed counter is 90cm high, with a tray rail at a height of 85cm. There is a moveable card machine for payment.
    • The self-service counters are also 90cm high, each with a "bagging area" at a height of 95cm. The touchscreens have a height range between 138cm and 158cm, and there are fixed card readers at a height of 151cm. If you place your tray on the "bagging area", the machine will automatically work out which items you have selected and charge you accordingly.
