Introduction

  • Thanks to a generous donation from Sir James Colyer-Fergusson and The Colyer-Fergusson Charitable Trust, the exciting new centre for Music Performance on the Canterbury campus opened in December 2012. The Colyer-Fergusson Music Building is adjacent to the Gulbenkian Theatre and Cinema, creating an Arts complex, and houses the wide range of music-making at the University.

Useful Information

Getting Here

  • By Road View
    • The building is on the southern side of the Cornwallis complex of buildings in the centre of the Canterbury Campus, facing the central campus.
      This is about 1 mile north of Canterbury City Centre.
      The building has entrances facing the central campus and the Registry and can also be entered from the Cornwallis courtyard.
    • The building shares a car park for Blue Badge holders only.
      This is located off Darwin Road, behind Cornwallis East.
      The most direct route from there into Cornwallis South is through the foyer of Cornwallis Octagon and the link there.
      The nearest car park for other users is the Central Visitor Car Park, to the west of the Cornwallis complex and the Gulbenkian/ Colyer-Fergusson Buildings.
      This is reached using Library Road off Giles Lane.
  • By Bus View
    • There are frequent Unibus services linking the University campus with the centre of Canterbury and Canterbury East and West train stations.
      The nearest bus stops are on Giles Lane or Darwin Road.
  • By Train View
    • The nearest train station is Canterbury West, to the north of the city centre.
      This is on the line from London to Kent, including Ashford International.
      There is step-free access into the station building.
      There is step-free access to both platforms by lift.
      Staff are available to assist with portable ramps between the platform and the train.
      There are buses linking the city centre with the University campus, with stops about 5 minutes walk from the station.

Building Parking

  • The building does not have its own dedicated parking.
  • Site/Campus Car Parks View
    • There is a site/campus car park for staff, students and visitors within approximately 200m.
    • The name of the car park is The Central Visitors Car Park.
    • The car park is located to the rear of the Gulbenkian building.
  • Drop Off Point View

    • Visitor parking
    • Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm visitors can use the five Pay and Display car parks. Parking elsewhere is restricted and for permit holders only. At all other times visitors can use any car park for free.
    • Blue Badge holders must display their badge in the windscreen and free parking is available within marked bays.
    • Visitors with restricted mobility can reserve a parking bay by contacting [email protected] or +44 (0)1227 823 609.
    • Free motorcycle parking is available in motorcycle bays only.
    • Parking Enforcement is in operation 24hrs.
