Introduction

Getting Here (Getting to Park Wood: Kemsdale Court)

  • By Road View
    • Park Wood is located to the north side of the Canterbury Campus, accessed via Park Wood Road.
      Park Wood Road connects to Giles Lane which runs through central campus and connects the A290 Whitstable Road.
      Kemsdale Court is located to the north-west side of the Park Wood Courts.
    • The Park Wood Courts have a few car parking spaces per court.
      The nearest campus car park for visitors (pay and display), University Pink or Blue Permit or Accessible Parking Permit/ Blue Badge holders is the Pavilion Car Park off Park Wood Road.
      This is approximately 250 metres from Kemsdale Court.
  • By Bus View
    • There are frequent Unibus services linking the University campus with the centre of Canterbury and Canterbury East and West train stations.
      The nearest bus stop is on Parkwood Road close to the Pavilion and Indoor Tennis and Events Arena.

Building Parking (Park Wood Courts - Kemsdale and Nickle)

    • The adapted kitchen in flat 2 has a counter 92cm high with a lower section 75cm high with a 70cm knee recess. There are low cupboards, a sink/hob on a height adjustable section and automatic doors with push-pads 100cm high.
    • The adapted bathroom has a push-pad 100cm high, a horizontally and vertically adjustable shower seat, horizontally adjustable shower controls, a Closomat toilet with attached drop-down rails on either side (elbow flush), horizontally adjustable drop-down rails at the sink which itself is horizontally and vertically adjustable and a red flashing fire alarm.
    • A standard ensuite is shown in photographs 12-16. They are all similar and have stepped showers (15cm high).
    • Auxiliary Aids: Certain accomodation blocks may be suggested for more space if a resident has an assistance dog. Similarly, if a student/resident has a lot of specialist equipment, an ensuite or studio would be suggested (normally the university will pay the difference in cost).
    • Any additional aids for sensory or mobility impairments (vibrating pillows, light alerts, mobile hoists) are the student’s home local authority’s responsibility. However, they can be provided on request in the interim if any issues arise.

    • All of the Kemsdale blocks have one on ground floor which are all very similar. They are all close to the entrances, with some slightly further than the one in Block 1-6 (around 10-15m).
    • The main difference between them is that the other blocks do not have automatic doors to the accessible toilet as Block 1-6 does. The push-pad is placed at a convenient height.
