Getting Here (Getting to the Jarman Building)

  • By Road View
    • The building is in the south east section of the Canterbury Campus, which is approximately 1 mile north of Canterbury City Centre.
      The building can be reached from the pedestrianised central campus area or from the access road off University Road.
    • The nearest car park for Blue Badge holders and university Pink Zone permit holders is Eliot Car Park to the south of the building or Monkswell to the west of the building across University Road.
      University Road connects with the A290 Whitstable Road.
  • By Bus View
    • There are frequent Unibus services linking the University campus with the centre of Canterbury and Canterbury East and West train stations.
      The nearest bus stops are on Giles Lane or University Road.
  • By Train View
    • The nearest train station is Canterbury West, to the north of the city centre.
      This is on the line from London to Kent, including Ashford International.
      There is step-free access into the station building.
      There is step-free access to both platforms by lift.
      Staff are available to assist with portable ramps between the platform and the train.
      There are buses linking the city centre with the University campus, with stops approximately 5 minutes away from the station.

    • Restrictions are from 8am Monday to 5pm Friday. Pink permit holders are the only ones allowed to park in this car park. Blue Badge holders also can if they hold this permit but there are no Blue Badge bays within the car park.
    • The dropped kerb onto the pavement from the carpark is not levelled and is a shallow step, as shown in photograph 4. The crossing across the road is level/ step-free.

    • There are types of seating within the corridors: bench seating 39cm in the foyer (photograph 3), 2 tables 70cm high and chairs at top of stairs on the first floor (photograph 4), and communal kitchen with a counter 90cm high on the second floor (photograph 6).
    • There are various push-pad automatic doors as shown in photographs 7-9. Studio 2 (also access for the lift), Studio 10 with a key card 100cm high and Room 1-06 on the ground and first floor all have single or double automated doors.
