Introduction

Getting Here (Getting to Keynes Extension T Block)

  • By Road View
    • The building is located on the south-west side of the Canterbury Campus, which is approximately 1 mile north of Canterbury City Centre.
      The building is in located to the north-west of Keynes College.
      It can be reached via Giles Lane which connects with the A290 Whitstable Road.
    • Rothford Car Park off Giles Lane requires a University Pink Parking Permit, Accessible Parking Permit or Blue Badge to park in any bay in the car park.
      Keynes Car Park is also around 200 metres from the Keynes Extension.

  • By Bus View
    • There are frequent Unibus services linking the University campus with the centre of Canterbury and Canterbury East and West train stations.
      The nearest bus stops are on Giles Lane or University Road.
      There is a pathway from the extension blocks directly to the bus stop on University Road.

      This is on the line from London to Kent, including Ashford International.

    • The accessible flat has an adapted kitchen. There is an adjustable counter (89cm high at time of survey) with a sink and hob. The table is 75cm high. The door into the kitchen is 84cm wide and is push-pad operated, as is the door into the bedroom and bathroom. The flat is shown in photographs 1-6.
    • The standard rooms (shown in photographs 7-9) in T1-5 and the upper floors of T6 have shared kitchens (photographs 12 and 13). Some of the rooms have some kitchenettes within the room itself with basic equipment (microwave, kettle, hob) as shown in photograph 14. The kitchen tables are 85-90cm high and the counter space is 92cm high.
    • The downstairs rooms in T1-5 has an ensuite with a stepped showers (5-15cm high). An example of one is shown in photographs 10 and 11.
    • The other rooms have shared bathrooms with similar stepped showers. There are 2 on each floor.
    • Auxiliary Aids: Certain accomodation blocks (like this T6A flat) may be suggested for more space if a resident has an assistance dog. Similarly, if a student/resident has a lot of specialist equipment, an ensuite or studio would be suggested (normally the university will pay the difference in cost).
    • Any additional aids for sensory or mobility impairments (vibrating pillows, light alerts, mobile hoists) are the student’s home local authority’s responsibility. However, they can be provided on request in the interim if any issues arise.
