Summary

Lakeside Arts to East Drive Crossroads

  • This route starts at the Lakeside Arts Centre.
  • At the entrance to the building turn right to face the wide even pathway in front.
  • The pathway is tarmac.
  • Continue for 10m before reaching 3 bollards crossing the pathway.
  • The bollards contrast visually with the floor.
  • The width between the first two bollards is 238m.
  • The width between the next two bollards is 190cm.
  • The bollards have visual identification banding at the top.
  • Between the bollards there is an electrical cover that may cause a trip hazard.
  • There is bench seating with no armrests to the left of the bollards.
  • Continue for 9m along the pathway with a left hand camber.
  • After 9m the tarmac colour changes slightly and there is a covered grid crossing the pathway.
  • The pathway narrows to 150cm+ at this point.
  • Continue up a slight slope with even surfaces for 22m.
  • After 22m the sloped incline increases to moderate for 17m.
  • At the top of the slope the walkway levels off.
  • Ahead will be the Keighton Hill - East Drive crossroads.
  • The tarmac colour changes from black to red and there is a small threshold to overcome.

East Drive Crossroads to Opposite Portland Building

  • Turn left at the crossroads to face the pavement.
  • The pavement is tarmac and there is a dropped kerb to overcome.
  • The width of the pavement is 150cm+ with a slight camber from left to right.
  • After 1m the colour of the tarmac changes and there is a slight lip crossing the pathway.
  • Continue up a slight slope for 20m.
  • There are some uneven surfaces due to wear of the tarmac.
  • After 20m there is bench seating without armrest to the left opposite the UN41 bus stop.
  • The pavement widens here for 3m.
  • After 3m the pavement narrows again to 150cm+ and there is a small lip in the tarmac.
  • Continue for 17m up the slight slope with uneven surfaces to reach more bench seating to the left.
  • The bench seating is opposite the UN40 bus stop and has no armrests.
  • Continue past the bench seating and the last bust stop (opposite) for 20m.
  • After 20m the signage for East Drive will be on the left.
  • Opposite, to the right, is the junction for Portland Hill - East Drive.
  • Continue up the slight slope for 36m where there is a bike and e-scooter storage.
  • At the time of the survey e-scooters where parked across the pathway.
  • There is more bench seating here with no armrests.
  • Continue for 2m past the bike storage.
  • The accessible entrance to the Portland Building will be directly opposite, across the road.

Opposite Portland Building to Steps to Trent (GF)

  • Continue past the Portland Building up a slight slope for 12m.
  • The pavement is tarmac with a width of 150cm+.
  • After 12m there is bench seating with armrests to the left.
  • The pathway has a steep camber to the right due to a dropped kerb with blister tactile paving.
  • The crossing is used to cross over East Drive to access the Portland Building.
  • There is a slight colour change on the tarmac at the crossing point.
  • Continue past the crossing up a slight slope for 38m.
  • The pavement widens and there is bench seating to the left and a crossing to the right.
  • The bench seating has no armrests.
  • The crossing is used to access Portland Coffee Co.
  • The crossing has blister tactile paving, the tarmac changes from black to red and there are bollards at the crossing.
  • The bollards have a width of 198cm and contrast visually with the floor.
  • The bollards have visual indicators at the top.
  • After 1m the pavement narrows to 150cm+.
  • Continue for 18m where there is blister tactile paving and a dropped kerb.
  • The dropped kerb causes a steep slope to the right in the pavement.
  • To the left of the tactile paving is the stepped access to the Trent Building (Lower Ground Floor).

Steps to Trent (GF) to Trent East Entrance

  • Continue past the stepped access to Trent Building (Lower Ground Floor).
  • The pavement is tarmac.
  • After 6m there is a steep drop on the right of the kerb due to wear of the road beneath.
  • Continue for 10m up a slight slope.
  • The pathway changes from tarmac to slabbed paving and levels off.
  • There width of the path narrows to 135cm, there are some uneven surfaces due to the way the slabs are laid.
  • After 4m turn left.
  • Continue for 5m then turn right.
  • Continue for 10m and turn right.
  • Continue for 5m, the paving changes colour and is now white.
  • The east entrance to the Trent Building is on the left.
