Starting Point - Orchard Hotel

Orchard Hotel to Junction

  • Take the path at the front of the Orchard Hotel on the left.
  • There is a dropped kerb at the start of the path.
  • There is a signpost for the Central Campus on the right at the start of the path.
  • The path is 150cm wide and the surface is tarmac.
  • The path is a very long steep path with no resting places.
  • 3 meters along the path there is a bin on the right.
  • The path is uneven in places as can be seen in photograph 3.
  • There are lampposts on the right at regular intervals.
  • There are bushes and grass on the left.
  • After 61 meters there is a path on the right which leads to the rear entrance to the Orchard Hotel.
  • Continue upwards past the path for 107 meters.
  • The path now has a camber to the left.
  • At the end of the path there is a junction with other paths.

Junction to Lenton Hall Drive

  • At the junction of the paths continue straight ahead.
  • The path is shared with cyclists.
  • Pedestrians should stay to the left with cyclists on the right.
  • The gradient of the path is steep for 17 meters before it levels out and then becomes a slight downhill for 38 meters.
  • There is a camber on the path to the left.
  • There is bench seating with no armrests on the right.
  • Continue on the path for a further 21 meters then follow the path around to the right.
  • The path now become a steep uphill for 10 meters to Lenton Hall Drive.
  • The cycle path now changes to the left and pedestrians on the right.

Lenton Hall Drive to Lenton Hall Drive Crossing

  • At Lenton Hall Drive turn left.
  • The road leading to Hallward Library is on the right.
  • The path is an easy downhill slope with a camber to the left.
  • The surface of the path is tarmac.
  • There are signposts on the left.
  • There is a bin and lamppost on the left close to the signposts.
  • Continue ahead on the path.
  • There is a grate which is slightly raised on the path after 45 meters as can be seen in photograph 6.
  • The entrance to Hugh Stewart House is on the right.
  • After 28 meters there is a dropped kerb to the right.
  • The dropped kerb does not have any tactile paving (photograph 7).
  • After 31 meters there is a small fence on the left.
  • Continue past the fence for a further 7 meters to a dropped kerb to cross Lenton Hall Drive.

Lenton Hall Drive Crossing

  • There is a dropped kerb and tactile paving to cross Lenton Hall Drive.
  • There is no marked crossing on the road.
  • Traffic comes from the left and right.
  • The road is 5 meters wide.

Lenton Hall Drive Crossing to Visitors Car Park

  • After crossing Lenton Hall Drive continue straight ahead.
  • There are bollards on the right.
  • The bollards are 93cm high with a width of 88cm between them.
  • The bollards have a visual identification strip and contrast with the surface of the path.
  • Continue along the path for 84 meters.
  • The gradient of the path is an easy downhill slope.
  • The surface is block paving.
  • Cripps Hall is on the left and Hugh Stewart Hall is on the right.
  • After 84 meters turn right and head towards the steps and ramp.
  • The surface changes to tarmac edged with concrete paving.
  • The ramp and steps are 5 meters ahead.
  • The ramp is on the left of the steps.
  • The ramp has a steep gradient with resting places.
  • There is a handrail on the right to the turn then on the left.
  • Alternatively there are 7 clearly marked steps with handrails on both sides.
  • The steps are 10cm high and 41cm deep.
  • There is corduroy hazard warning surface at the top and bottom of the ramp and steps.
  • At the bottom of the ramp or steps the visitors car park is immediately ahead.
