Exit the Life Sciences Building Car Park and Turn Right

  • If you park in the Blue Badge parking bay closest to the East Drive footpath there is a hatched area to the left of the bay.
  • This area is flush with the footpath and allows easy access out of the car park.
  • Once you reach the East Drive footpath turn right.

Follow the East Drive Footpath to Keighton Hill

  • Proceed straight ahead along the East Drive footpath.
  • The footpath has a smooth tarmac surface.
  • After approximately 35 metres you will cross the vehicular entrance/exit to the Life Sciences Building Car Park.
  • Care should be taken as vehicles may cross the path from the left or right.
  • This section of the path has the kerb edges painted yellow to warn pedestrians (see Photograph 2).
  • After this section continue along the path for approximately 55 metres until it starts to bend around to the right into Keighton Hill.
  • You will reach a marked pedestrian crossing.

Use the Pedestrian Crossing at the Keighton Hill Junction

  • Upon reaching the Keighton Hill junction use the marked pedestrian crossing to get to the opposite side and rejoin the East Drive footpath.
  • The crossing has a flush dropped kerb with tactile paving on both sides.
  • There are no pedestrian signals at this crossing point.
  • Traffic comes from both directions.

Continue Along the East Drive Footpath Past the Bus Stops

  • Continue along the East Drive footpath past the 4 bus stops on the right hand side.
  • The footpath continues to have a smooth tarmac surface.
  • The sheltered bus stops have bench seating.
  • The footpath narrows to 150cm past some of the bus stops.
  • Approximately 110 metres after the Keighton Hill pedestrian crossing you will reach the Portland Hill crossing when the footpath starts to bend around to the right.

Use the Pedestrian Crossing at the Portland Hill Junction

  • Upon reaching the Portland Hill junction use the marked pedestrian crossing to get to the opposite side and rejoin the East Drive footpath.
  • The crossing has a flush dropped kerb with tactile paving on both sides.
  • There are no pedestrian signals at this crossing point.
  • Traffic comes from both directions.

Continue Along the East Drive Footpath Past the Students' Union

  • Continue along the East Drive footpath past the Students' Union (Portland Building).
  • The footpath continues to have a smooth tarmac surface but does narrow to 140cm as you pass some access steps on the right hand side.
  • Care should be taken as the steps protrude into the footpath.
  • Approximately 170 metres after the Portland Hill pedestrian crossing you will reach another crossing on your left hand side that allows you to cross East Drive itself.
  • You should use this crossing as the footpath becomes very narrow should you continue on this side of the road.

Use the Pedestrian Crossing to Cross to the Far Side of East Drive

  • Use the painted crossing point to get to the opposite side of East Drive.
  • The crossing has a flush dropped kerb with tactile paving on both sides.
  • At the opposite side turn right and continue along East Drive.
  • There are no pedestrian signals at this crossing point.
  • Traffic comes from both directions.

Continue Along the East Drive Footpath Towards the Trent Building

  • Continue along the East Drive footpath towards the Trent Building (it should now be visible as the building straight ahead with a large clocktower).
  • There is a wooden bench seat to the left along this section should you need to rest.
  • The footpath continues to have a smooth tarmac surface but does narrow to 114cm as you get close to the East Car Park of the Trent Building.
  • After approximately 80 metres from the East Drive crossing you will reach the East Car Park.

Follow Footpath Around East Car Park to East Entrance

  • When you reach the East Car Park of the Trent Building follow the footpath around the left hand side of the car park.
  • The surface of the footpath changes from tarmac to paving slabs along this section and is a little uneven in places.
  • The footpath on the far side of the car park narrows to 114cm.
  • After approximately 515 metres in total you will reach the East Entrance into the Quad.

Go Through the East Entrance and Reach the Main Entrance

  • Turn left when you reach the East Entrance for the Trent Building.
  • The East Entrance is an open passageway with a central bollard that gives access to the central Quad area where the main entrance into the building is located.
  • The minimum passing widths for the bollards is 118cm on the left hand side.
  • Go through the East Entrance and reach the Quad.
  • The Quad has a smooth paved surface.
  • Continue straight ahead until you reach the Main Entrance on the left hand side.

Outside Access (Quad - Main Entrance)

    • This information is for the entrance located on the south side of the Quad.
    • This entrance gives access to A (Ground) floor.
    • The entrance area/door is clearly signed.
    • This entrance is signed with 'Trent Building'.
    • There is step-free access at this entrance.
    • There is not a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
    • The entrance door(s) does/do contrast visually with its immediate surroundings.
    • The main door(s) open(s) away from you (push).
    • The door(s) is/are double width.
    • The door(s) is/are permanently held open.
    • The width of the door opening is 168cm.
    • There is a second set of doors.
    • The door(s) open(s) automatically (towards you).
    • The door(s) is/are double width.
    • The width of the door opening is 146cm.
    • There is a slope with a very easy incline.
