- This guide was designed to take the most accessible route from the David Ross Sports Village through to the Law and Sciences Building. There are some areas along the route that some may find difficult due to dropped kerbs, long steep slopes, uneven surfaces and narrow walkways. The length of the route is approximately 868m (0.54 miles).
- Building View
David Ross Sports Village to Beeston Lane
- This route begins at the David Ross Sports Village and heads towards Beeston Lane.
- At the entrance to the sports village turn left.
- The paving is block paving and is level in most places.
- In some places there are some uneven surfaces caused by loose paving.
- The width of the path is 150cm+.
- There are bollards on the right hand side along the length of the pavement.
- Some bollards are covered with signage and some are not.
- The bollards contrast visually with the pavement but have no visual indication markings.
- Continue down the pathway for 12m.
- Along the route there are 4 bench seats without armrests.
- After 12m the path widens.
- Continue for 6m where the pathway changes from block paving to tarmac
- There is a slight downhill slope for 2m after this point.
- There is blister paving, signalling stepped access to pitches, on the left crossing the pavement.
- Continue for 3m where a slight threshold across the pavement.
- This threshold signifies the start of 'Universitas 21 Avenue'.
- Continue along Universitas 21 Avenue for 20m.
- The pathway is 3m wide and dark red tarmac.
- Along the route there is bike storage to the left and bench seating without armrests to the right.
- After 20m there is a cable that is covered running across the pathway.
- This causes a step in the pathway.
- The height of the step is 8cm.
- The depth of the step is 50cm.
- Continue past the step for a further 27m.
- After 27m there will be the crossroads for Beeston Lane and the end of Universitas 21 Avenue.
Beeston Lane to Rutland Hall Entrance
- In front is a zebra crossing with no Belisha Beacons.
- The crossing is used to cross Beeston Lane towards Rutland Hall.
- At the crossing there is a slight downhill slope.
- There is tactile blister paving and the crossing is signed 'STOP LOOK'.
- The zebra crossing is slightly angled to the left and cambers slightly to the right.
- Cross over for 7m to reach the other side of the road.
- At this point there is a slight downhill slope.
- The pathway is tarmac and 150cm+ wide.
- After 10m Rutland Hall will be on the right.
- Continue for 40m along the pathway.
- There are some uneven surfaces due to manhole covers areas where the tarmac has been re-laid.
- To the right will be the entrance to Rutland Hall.
Rutland Hall Entrance to Rutland Hall Car Park
- Turn right to face the pathway towards the Rutland Hall entrance.
- There is tactile blister paving and a dropped kerb.
- The paving changes from tarmac to block paving and the walkway narrows to 145cm.
- Continue down a slight slope 13m before reaching a drainage cover crossing the walkway.
- At this point the pathway becomes level.
- After 6m the route becomes covered.
- The pathway changes from block paving to paving slabs and some slabs are very uneven.
- The overhead cover is held up by bollards.
- These bollards are on either side of the walkway.
- The smallest width between the bollards is 178cm.
- Continue under the covered route for 2m and the block paving changes back to block paving.
- Continue for 10m along the level pathway.
- After 10m there is a slight slope downwards for another 6m.
- After 6m there is a dropped curb before the Rutland Hall car park.
- The block paving changes to tarmac and the walkway widens considerably.
- Turn right and continue along the service road for 11m.
- This part of the walkway cambers slightly to the right.
- After 11m turn left to face the car park entrance.
- Continue through the car park for 9m.
- There are some uneven surfaces in the car park and the car park cambers to the left.
Rutland Hall Car Park to the Orchard Hotel
- After reaching the end of the Rutland Hall Car Park there is a narrow walkway.
- The walkway connects the Rutland Hall Car Park to the Orchard Hotel Car Park.
- There is a slight dropped kerb before the walkway.
- The width of the walkway is 80cm.
- The surface of the walkway is pebbled tarmac.
- This leads to some uneven surfaces along the path.
- After 1m there is another dropped kerb into the Orchard Hotel car park.
- The pathway widens and the paving changes to tarmac.
- Continue through the car park for 12m until you reach the main road to the car park.
- At this point turn left.
- Continue up a long slight slope for 35m towards the Orchard Hotel.
- After 35m the hotel signage will be straight in front.
- Turn left at the signage to face the last car park entrance.
- Continue for 15m through the car park with a camber to the left.
- After 15m there will be wayfinding signage and the pathway that leads to the Millennium Gardens.
The Orchard Hotel to the Start of the Millennium Gardens
- At the signage to the Millennium Gardens there is a dropped kerb.
- The paving changes from dark tarmac to light pebbled tarmac.
- The width of the path narrows to 150cm+.
- Turn left and continue up a long steep slope for 45m.
- After 45m there is a crossroads in the pathway.
- Take the right fork and continue up the steep slope with a right hand camber for 12m.
- After 12m the pathway levels off a little but there is still a slight slope with a right hand camber.
- Continue for 15m to reach the junction for the entrance to floor 1 of the Orchard Hotel.
- At this point there is bench seating to the left with no armrests.
- Continue past the bench seating for 12m up a steep slope with a right hand camber.
- After 12m the walkway levels off slightly.
- Continue up the slight slope for 16m before reaching another crossing of paths.
- At this crossway turn left .
- Continue up a steep slope for 16m to reach the entrance to the Millennium Gardens.
Through the Millennium Gardens
- At the beginning of the Millennium Gardens the tarmac pathway changes to block paving.
- The walkway is level and has a width of 150cm+.
- Keep to the right and follow the walkway round for 20m.
- Along the route there is bench seating without armrests.
- At the end of the semi-circular pathway turn right.
- Continue up the slight slope for 10m.
- The pathway widens at this point and there are some patterns in the block paving.
- There is also a bollard in the middle of the pathway.
Millennium Gardens to Law and Sciences (North Entrance)
- Continue past the bollard crossing the pathway for 10m up a slight slope.
- After 10m turn left.
- The block paving turns to tarmac and the width of the path narrows.
- Continue for 3m up a slight slope before reaching a dropped kerb.
- The dropped kerb is used to access the Law and Sciences Car Park at the rear of the building.
- Continue onto the car and then turn right after 4m.
- Continue for 12m through the car park and turn left.
- There is a pedestrian walkway marked in the car park on the right.
- Continue for 7m along the pedestrian walkway.
- After 7m the North Entrance to the Law and Sciences building will be on the right.
