Accommodation Overview

    • Shaw House is on the Digby Stuart College campus near to the Library and Mandela buildings.

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free although since the Digby Stuart College campus is on a hill, the approach from some directions is on a long slope with a slight gradient.
  • Shaw House has 3 entrances, one each for Block A and B, Block C and D, and Block E and F.
  • All entrances provide step-free access to the ground floor of each block.
  • All entrances have manual doors.
  • Each entrance has dual signage for the blocks which that entrance provides access to.
  • For example the shared entrance for A Block and B Block shows a sign 'Block A' to the left of the entrance, and 'Block B' to the right of the entrance .
  • All entrances have step-free access which is on a slope with a slight or steep gradient.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the ground floor in all blocks.
  • There is step-free level access via lift throughout Blocks E and F.
  • There is only stepped access from the ground floor upwards in Blocks A, B, C, and D.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny or patterned finish.
  • Wall-mounted wayfinding signage is provided in the stairwells of each block.
  • There are manual doors for access to each of the individual flats in all blocks.

    • The most accessible route to the bedroom has step-free level access and manual doors.
    • There is step-free level access into the bedroom.

    • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 105cm.
    • The door opens inwards and has a high visual contrast.
    • The width of the door opening is 77cm.
  • Bedroom Features View
    • The bedroom has a single bed.
    • The top of the mattress is 51cm from the floor.
    • The space under the bed is 27cm from the floor.
    • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre next to the bed (150cm x 150cm).
    • The following is available in this bedroom: a chair without armrests, wardrobes for seated users, bedside plug sockets, a medication fridge, a desk and a flashing fire alarm.
