- This route plain explains the most accessible route to floors 2, 3 and 4 in block BB in the event the main lift is out of service.
- The route comprises a distance of approximately 50 metres with one slight slope along the route.
- The route requires access to the Frank Whittle Building Block (Block AB) and use of its lift as well as passing through two or three sets of manual doors.
Outside Access (Alan Turing BB Block Rear Entrance)

- There is ramped/sloped access at this entrance.
- There is not a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.

- The door(s) may be difficult to open.
- The width of the door opening is 150cm (4ft 11in).
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of less than 2cm.

BB Entrance to AB Entrance
- Upon exiting the BB Block Rear Entrance head across the road to the entrance for AB Block.
- There is a tactile dropped kerb immediately in front of the entrance.
- Head across the road to the AB entrance, a distance of approximately 11m.
- There is a tarmac road between the entrances.
- There are loading bays either side of the entrance to Block AB.
- There is level access to the AB entrance.
Outside Access (Blocks AA and AB Lift Lobby Entrance)

- This information is for the entrance located on the left hand side Block AB, where Blocks AA and AB meet.
- There is step free access at this entrance.
- There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
- The main door(s) open(s) automatically (towards you).
- The door(s) is / are double.
- The width of the door opening is 138cm (4ft 6in).
Lift (Block AA and AB Shared Lift)
- There is a lift for public use.
- The lift is located in the adjoining corridor between Blocks AA and AB.
- The lift is a standard lift.
- The floors which are accessible by this lift are G, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
- Wall mounted information boards are provided at lift landings.
- There are manual, light, double doors to access the lift lobby on all floors.
- The lift is approximately 8m (8yd 2ft) from the Blocks AA and AB lift lobby entrance.
- Staff do not need to be notified for use of the lift.
- The clear door width is 150cm (4ft 11in).
- The dimensions of the lift are 200cm x 250cm (6ft 7in x 8ft 2in).
- There are not separate entry and exit doors in the lift.
- There is not a mirror to aid reversing out of the lift.
- The lift does have a visual floor indicator.
- The lift does have an audible announcer.
- The lift does not have a hearing loop system.

- The controls for the lift are within 90cm - 120cm from the floor.
- The lighting level in the lift is medium.
Second Floor Lift to Bridge
- Take the lift to Level 2.
- Turn right on exiting the lift and head to the second floor bridge.
- The surface of the floor is vinyl.
- The floor is shiny.
- After approximately 8m the bridge will be to your left.
Third Floor and Fourth Floor to Lift
- There are similar routes from the lift to the bridge on the third and fourth floors.
- On the third floor there is a set of double heavy doors to reach the bridge.
- The third floor route can be seen in photographs 1, 2 and 3.
- The fourth floor route can be seen in photographs 4 and 5.
