Introduction

Outside Access (Block AX Main Entrance)

  • Entrance View
    • This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building.
    • There is ramped/sloped access at this entrance.
    • A key card is required for access at this entrance.
    • The height of the card reader/lock is 120cm (3ft 11in).
    • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
    • The main door(s) open(s) automatically (towards you).
    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The width of the door opening is 140cm (4ft 7in).
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.
  • Ramp/Slope View
    • There is a ramp/slope at this entrance.
    • The ramp/slope is located in front of the entrance.
    • The ramp/slope gradient is slight.

Edward Jenner Building Main Entrance (Block AX) to Robert Boyle Building Main Entrance (Block AZ)

  • Turn right from the Edward Jenner Main Entrance and follow the pavement on a downhill slope with uneven surfaces.
  • Go past the Joseph Lister Building on your right hand side.
  • Cross the road where there are dropped kerbs and tactile paving as shown in photograph 4.
  • Turn left and follow the pavement on a slight uphill slope.
  • There are poles for road signs set into the pavement.
  • Cross the road at the Lakeside Car Park entrance where there are dropped kerbs and tactile paving as shown in photographs 9 and 10.
  • Continue along the pavement. There is a bus shelter on your right hand side.
  • Cross the road at the next crossing where there are dropped kerbs and tactile paving as shown in photograph 15.
  • The Robert Boyle Main Entrance is to your left.

Outside Access (Front Entrance to Block AZ-AY Shared Staircase)

  • Entrance View
    • This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building.
    • There is ramped/sloped or stepped access at this entrance.
    • A key card is required for access at this entrance.
    • The height of the card reader/lock is 105cm (3ft 5in).
    • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
    • The main door(s) open(s) automatically (towards you).
    • The door(s) is/are push pad activated.
    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The width of the door opening is 163cm (5ft 4in).
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.
  • Second Set of Doors View
    • There is a second set of doors.
    • The door(s) open(s) towards you (pull).
    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The door(s) is / are heavy.
    • The width of the door opening is 158cm (5ft 2in).
  • Ramp/Slope View
    • There is a ramp/slope at this entrance.
    • The ramp/slope is located in front of the entrance and on the right.
    • The ramp or slope does bypass the step(s).
    • The ramp/slope gradient is slight.
    • The ramp is permanent.
    • There is a level landing at the top of the ramp.
    • The ramp does have handrails.
    • The handrails are on both sides.
  • Step(s) View
    • There is a / are step(s) at this entrance.

Robert Boyle Building Main Entrance to Shared Lift

  • Once inside the Robert Boyle Building, turn left through the single (with a locked leaf) automatic door (opens away from you).
  • The width of the door is 89cm.
  • The height of the card reader is 110cm as shown in photograph 2.
  • Proceed ahead through the next single (with a locked leaf) automatic door (opens away from you) into the Dorothy Hodgkin Building.
  • The width of the door is 87cm.
  • The height of the push button is 100cm as shown in photograph 4.
  • The shared lift is on your left hand side.
  • Take the lift to Level 2.

Lift (Block AY and AZ Shared Lift)

  • There is a lift for public use.
  • The lift is located between Blocks AY and AZ, next to the shared stairs and just beyond the Front Entrance to Block AY and AZ Shared Staircase.
  • The lift is a standard lift.
  • The floors which are accessible by this lift are G, 1, 2, 3 and 4.
  • Wall mounted information boards are not provided at lift landings.
  • The lift is approximately 2m (2yd 7in) from the Front Entrance to Block AY and AZ Shared Staircase and Lift.
  • Staff do not need to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The clear door width is 150cm (4ft 11in).
  • The dimensions of the lift are 200cm x 240cm (6ft 7in x 7ft 10in).
  • There are not separate entry and exit doors in the lift.
  • There is not a mirror to aid reversing out of the lift.
  • The lift does have a visual floor indicator.
  • The lift does have an audible announcer.
  • The lift does not have a hearing loop system.
  • The lift does not have Braille markings.
  • The lift does have tactile markings.
  • The controls for the lift are within 90cm - 120cm from the floor.
  • The lighting level in the lift is bright.
  • Comments View
    • There is wall mounted information board stating what is on each floor but on the ground floor only.

Shared Lift to Edward Jenner Building Level 2

  • As you exit the lift, turn right and go through the door on the left hand side.
  • The door is single (locked leaf) as shown in photograph 2.
  • The door is heavy.
  • The door open towards you (pull).
  • The width of the door is 83cm.
  • The height of the card swipe is 130cm as shown in photograph 3.
  • Follow the corridor ahead and then take the first right.
  • Continue along the corridor.
  • The door is single (locked leaf) and opens away from you (push) as shown in photograph 8.
  • The door is heavy.
  • The width of the door is 84cm.
  • Continue along the corridor until you reach the end.
  • Turn left and proceed along the corridor.
  • At the end of the corridor, turn left and then right as shown in photographs 13, 14 and 15.
  • The door is single (locked leaf) and opens away from you (push).
  • The door is heavy.
  • The width of the door is 88cm.
  • The height of the exit button is 124cm as shown in photograph 17.
  • Continue past the staircase and through the door into the Edward Jenner Building.
  • The door is single (locked leaf) and opens towards you (pull).
  • The door is heavy.
  • The width of the door is 87cm.
  • The height of the card swipe is 138cm as shown in photograph 19.
  • Turn left and then right and you are on Level 2 of the Edward Jenner Building.
