Alternative Access to the Building

Outside Access (Block AW Main Entrance)

  • Entrance View
    • This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building.
    • There is stepped access at this entrance.
    • A key card is required for access at this entrance.
    • The height of the card reader/lock is 125cm (4ft 1in).
    • There is not a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
    • The main door(s) open(s) towards you (pull).
    • The door(s) is / are single.
    • The door(s) is / are heavy.
    • The width of the door opening is 95cm (3ft 1in).
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.
  • Step(s) View
    • There is a / are step(s) at this entrance.
    • The step(s) is / are located to the right as you face the entrance.
    • There is / are 3 step(s) to access the entrance.
    • There is not tactile paving at the top and bottom of the step(s).
    • The step(s) is / are clearly marked.
    • The step(s) is / are deep (18cm+).
    • The steps do have handrails.
    • The handrails are on both sides.

Joseph Lister Outside Access to Edward Jenner Outside Access

  • As you face the Joseph Lister Building, turn right and follow the pavement along a steep uphill slope.
  • Go past the railing on your left hand side as shown in photograph 3.
  • The entrance to the Edward Jenner Building is on your left hand side.
  • The distance is approximately 10m and the surface is tarmac.

Outside Access (Block AX Main Entrance)

  • Entrance View
    • This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building.
    • There is ramped/sloped access at this entrance.
    • A key card is required for access at this entrance.
    • The height of the card reader/lock is 120cm (3ft 11in).
    • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
    • The main door(s) open(s) automatically (towards you).
    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The width of the door opening is 140cm (4ft 7in).
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.
  • Ramp/Slope View
    • There is a ramp/slope at this entrance.
    • The ramp/slope is located in front of the entrance.
    • The ramp/slope gradient is slight.

Edward Jenner Building Entrance to Lift

  • The lift is just ahead of you on entrance to the left hand side.
  • Take the lift to the first floor.
  • The distance is approximately 7m and the surface is carpet and vinyl.
  • There is level access.

Lift (Block AX)

  • There is a lift for public use.
  • The lift is located ahead as you enter the main entrance.
  • The lift is a standard lift.
  • The floors which are accessible by this lift are G, 1 and 2.
  • Wall mounted information boards are not provided at lift landings.
  • The lift is approximately 7m (7yd 1ft) from the Block AX main entrance.
  • Staff do not need to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The clear door width is 80cm (2ft 7in).
  • The dimensions of the lift are 112cm x 130cm (3ft 8in x 4ft 3in).
  • There are not separate entry and exit doors in the lift.
  • There is a mirror to aid reversing out of the lift.

Lift to Joseph Lister Building Level 1

  • As you exit the lift, turn right and proceed through the double doors.
  • The distance is approximately 4m and the surface is vinyl and carpet.
  • The double doors are heavy and open towards you (pull).
  • The width of the doors is 130cm.
  • The height of the card reader is 130cm as shown in photograph 4.
  • Continue across the bridge and you are in the Joseph Lister Building on Level 1.
