Introduction

  • This guide details the route between Foregate Street Station and the Arena and Riverside.
  • The guide also includes the route to The Hive Building from the City Campus Rear Entrance.

Exit Forgate Street Station and right on to Foregate Street

  • The surface outside the station exit has areas of flagstones and block paving before becoming flagstones on the pathway.
  • They are uneven in places.
  • Located outside the station is a bus stop.
  • The 31A bus service takes passengers from Foregate Street station to the main bus station.
  • The journey is around 3 minutes.
  • From the main bus station the 31B bus service makes stops at the Riverside and Arena and the St John's Campus.
  • After exiting Foregate Street Station turn right onto Foregate Street and continue straight.
  • The Pierpoint Street crossing is located ahead.

Pierpoint Street Crossing

  • There are dropped kerbs on both sides of the crossing with tactile paving only on the near side.
  • There is an area of tarmac on the near side of the crossing around the tactile paving.
  • The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
  • After crossing continue ahead on Forgate Street.

Continue on Foregate Street

  • The surface of the pathway is flagstones.
  • They are uneven in places.
  • Continue straight on Foregate Street.
  • The Taylor's Lane crossing is located ahead.

Taylor's Lane Crossing

  • There are dropped kerbs on both sides of the crossing with no tactile paving.
  • The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
  • After crossing continue ahead on Forgate Street.

Continue on Foregate Street

  • The surface of the pathway is flagstones.
  • There are two sets of dropped kerbs at the entrance and exit into the Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum.
  • The surface between the dropped kerbs is block paving.
  • Continue ahead on Foregate Street, the Foregate Street crossing is then located on the left.

Foregate Street Crossing

  • The crossing over Foregate Street is a double pedestrian crossing.
  • There are dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides for each crossing.
  • The surface of the central pedestrian island is block paving.
  • The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
  • After the second crossing turn right and use the pedestrian crossing located ahead of you and continue on to the opposite side of Castle Street.
  • The surface of the pathway is flagstones.

Castle Street Crossing

  • The crossing over Castle Street is a double pedestrian crossing.
  • There are dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides for each crossing.
  • The surface of the central pedestrian island is tactile paving.
  • The surface of the crossings is tarmac.
  • After the second crossing turn left and continue ahead on Castle Street.
  • The surface of the pathway is flagstones.

Continue on Castle Street

  • The surface of the pathway is initially block paving before becoming flagstones and then tarmac.
  • There are areas of uneveness on the block paving and tarmac surfaces.
  • The flagstones are very uneven in places.
  • Continue ahead and then round to the right to the Love's Grove crossing.
  • The crossing is set back from the junction.
  • The suface becomes flagstones close to the crossing.

Love's Grove Crossing

  • There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides of the crossings.
  • The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
  • After crossing turn left and continue on Castle Street.

Castle Street Crossing

  • There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides of the crossing.
  • The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
  • After crossing turn left and continue ahead on Castle Street.

Continue on Castle Street

  • There is a dual pedestrian/cycle zone located as you continue on Castle Street with an area of tactile paving at the end of the zone.
  • Pedestrians should keep to the right hand side of the pathway.
  • The surface of the pathway is tarmac.
  • It is uneven in places.
  • At the top of the road turn right on to Infirmary Walk.

Infirmary Walk - City Campus Courtyard

  • The surface of the pathway is tarmac.
  • It is uneven in places.
  • The pedestrian gate into the City Campus is located on the right of the pathway.
  • After the gate the surface becomes block paving.
  • Turn left after the pedestrian gate and continue ahead.

City Campus Courtyard - City Campus Access Ramp

  • The surface of the pathway is block paving.
  • It is uneven in places.
  • The pathway is on a moderate upward slope before leveling off in front of Chancellor's Hall.
  • The pathway then leads around the end of Mulberry House.
  • The beginning of the City Campus Access ramp is located at the rear corner of Mulberry House.

City Campus Access Ramp

  • The surface of the ramp is block paving.
  • It is uneven in places.
  • The gradient of the ramp varies between easy and steep.
  • At the base of the ramp to the rear of Mulberry House the pathway turns to the left.
  • Continue ahead before turning left following the pathway down the colour contrasting block paving.
  • A pair of bollards are located on the pathway as you turn left.
  • At the end of the ramp the surface becomes flagstones.
  • They are uneven in places.
  • Turn right at the end of the ramp and continue ahead to the City Campus rear entrance.

Outside Access (City Campus Rear Entrance)

  • This information is for the entrance located off Croft Road.
  • There is level access into the venue.
  • The main door(s) open automatically (towards you).
  • The doors are single width.
  • The door opening is 112cm (3ft 8in) wide.
  • Comments View
    • The gate is operated on this side via a green push button located to the right.
    • It is 104cm high.
    • On exiting turn right where the dropped kerb for the crossing is then located on the left.
    • The surface of the pathway is concrete.
    • The pathway narrows towards the dropped kerb.
    • For the Hive Building, turn left on exiting and continue ahead.

City Campus Rear Entrance - The Hive

  • The surface of the pathway is concrete becoming smooth tarmac.
  • As the surface changes, the pathway is on a steep upward slope.
  • At the top of the slope turn left and continue ahead before turning right and up a second, moderate slope.
  • There are handrails on the right hand side.
  • The surface of the pathway is block paving becoming flagstones at the base of the slope.
  • At the top of the slope turn left, continue ahead passing the steps to your left before turning left and up a third slope.
  • The Hive Building is now on the right.
  • Turn right at the top of the slope and the Hive entrance is located ahead and to the right.

Outside Access (The Hive)

  • This information is for the entrance located at the rear of the building.
  • The main door(s) open automatically.
  • The doors are double width.
  • The door opening is 190cm (6ft 3in) wide.
  • Second set of doors View
    • There is a second set of doors.
    • The door(s) open automatically.
    • The doors are double width.
    • The door opening is 180cm (5ft 11in) wide.

Croft Road Crossings - Grand Stand Road

  • There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides of the crossing.
  • The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
  • After the crossing follow the pathway down and around to the right to the pedestrian crossing.
  • The surface of the path is tarmac.
  • It is uneven in places.
  • There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides of the crossing.
  • The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
  • After the crossing continue ahead on the pathway around the edge of Worcester Race Course.
  • The pathway is on a upward moderate slope as you continue ahead.
  • There is a bollard located in the centre of the path.
  • The surface is now smooth tarmac.
  • As you approach Grand Stand Road bollards are located on the pathway.
  • The crossing is located to the left.

Grand Stand Road Crossing

  • There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides of the crossings.
  • A bollard is located at the centre of the dropped kerb on the far side.
  • The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
  • After crossing turn right and continue ahead to Sabrina Bridge.
  • The surface of the patheway is smooth tarmac as you approach the bridge.

Sabrina Bridge

  • The surface of the first part of the bridge is block paving before becoming wooden slats.
  • As you exit the bridge the surface turns back to block paving.
  • It is uneven in places.
  • There are a series of moderate or steep slopes on the bridge.
  • On exiting the bridge continue straight ahead on Hylton Road.

Hylton Road

  • Turn left at the exit of the Sabrina Bridge and continue south on Hylton Road.
  • The surface of the pathway is tarmac.
  • It is uneven in places.
  • The crossing over Hylton Road is located on the right.

Hylton Road Crossing

  • There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving both sides of the crossing.
  • The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
  • After crossing, turn left and follow the path around to the right.

Hylton Road Crossing - Riverside Entrance

  • The surface of the path is tarmac becoming block paving as you turn to the right.
  • It is uneven in places.
  • The corner has a dropped kerb with tactile paving that slopes down towards the road.
  • Continue ahead and the Riverside entrance is located on the right of the pathway.

Level Change (Riverside)

  • There is a ramp or slope to access this service.
  • The ramp or slope is located in front of the entrance.
  • The ramp or slope is permanent.

Outside Access (Riverside)

  • This information is for the entrance located at the side of the building in front of the Chequers Lane crossing.
  • There is not level access into the venue.
  • The intercom is not in a suitable position to allow wheelchair users to gain access.
  • The main door(s) open automatically.
  • The doors are double width.
  • The door opening is 125cm (4ft 1in) wide.
  • Second set of doors View
    • There is a second set of doors.
    • The door(s) open automatically.
    • The doors are double width.
    • The door opening is 120cm (3ft 11in) wide.
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.

Reception (Riverside)

  • The desk/counter is 4m (4yd 1ft) from the Riverside main entrance.
  • There is level access to the desk/counter from the entrance.
  • The lighting levels are medium.
  • The desk/counter is high (110cm+).
  • The desk/counter has a low (76cm or lower) section.
  • The desk/counter is staffed.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.

Chequers Lane Crossing

  • Continue straight before turning left toward the crossing.
  • There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides of the crossing.
  • The surface of the crossing is block paving which becomes tarmac as you approcach the far side.
  • Turn left after crossing and continue ahead before turning right towards the ramp leading to the arena entrance.
  • The surface is block paving.
  • It is uneven in places.

Level Change (Arena)

  • There is a ramp or slope to access this service.
  • The ramp/slope does bypass the step(s).
  • The ramp or slope is located leading to the entrance.
  • The ramp or slope is permanent.
  • There is a level landing at the top of the ramp.
  • The ramp does have handrails.
