Access Guide
Introduction
- This guide details the route between City Campus and St John's Campus.
- The guide also includes the route to The Hive Building from the City Campus Rear Entrance.
Reception (City Campus)
- The desk is 4m (4yd 1ft) from the lift.
- There is level access to reception from the entrance.
- This is by lift.
- The lighting levels are medium.
- The reception desk is low (76cm or lower).
- The desk is generally staffed.
- There is not a hearing assistance system.
Lift (City Campus Accessible Entrance)
- The lift is located immediately after the accessible entrance.
- The lift is a standard lift.
- The floors which are accessible by this lift are G-1.
- The lift is 2m (2yd 7in) from the accessible entrance.
- Staff do not need to be notified for use of the lift.
- The clear door width is 90cm (2ft 11in).
- The dimensions of the lift are 120cm x 140cm (3ft 11in x 4ft 7in).
- There are separate entry and exit doors in the lift.
- There is not a mirror to aid reversing out of the lift.
- The lift does have a visual floor indicator.
- The lift does have an audible announcer.
- The lift does have Braille markings.
- The lift does have tactile markings.
- The controls for the lift are within 120cm from the floor.
- The lighting level in the lift is medium.
Outside Access (City Campus Accessible Entrance)
- This information is for the entrance located at the front of the McClelland Centre.
- The intercom is in a suitable position to allow wheelchair users to gain access.
- The main door(s) open automatically (towards you).
- The doors are single width.
- The door opening is 85cm (2ft 9in) wide.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.

City Campus Accessible Entrance - City Campus Access Ramp
- Continue ahead after exiting the accessible entrance.
- The surface of the pathway is block paving.
- It is uneven in places.
- The pathway is on a moderate upward slope before leveling off in front of Chancellor's Hall.
- The pathway then leads around the end of Mulberry House.
- The beginning of the City Campus access ramp is located at the rear corner of Mulberry House.
City Campus Access Ramp
- The surface of the ramp is block paving.
- It is uneven in places.
- The gradient of the ramp varies between easy and steep.
- At the base of the ramp to the rear of Mulberry House the pathway turns to the left.
- Continue ahead before turning left following the pathway down the colour contrasting block paving.
- A pair of bollards are located on the pathway as you turn left.
- At the end of the ramp the surface becomes flagstones.
- They are uneven in places.
- Turn right at the end of the ramp and continue ahead to the City Campus rear entrance.
Outside Access (City Campus Rear Entrance)
- This information is for the entrance located off Croft Road.
- There is level access into the venue.
- The main door(s) open automatically (towards you).
- The doors are single width.
- The door opening is 112cm (3ft 8in) wide.

City Campus Rear Entrance - The Hive

- As the surface changes, the pathway is on a steep upward slope.
- At the top of the slope turn left and continue ahead before turning right and up a second, moderate slope.
- There are handrails on the right hand side.
- The surface of the pathway is block paving becoming flagstones at the base of the slope.
- At the top of the slope turn left, continue ahead passing the steps to your left before turning left and up a third slope.
- The Hive Building is now on the right.
- Turn right at the top of the slope and the Hive entrance is located ahead and to the right.
Outside Access (The Hive)
- This information is for the entrance located at the rear of the building.
- The main door(s) open automatically.
- The doors are double width.
- The door opening is 190cm (6ft 3in) wide.

- The door(s) open automatically.
- The doors are double width.
- The door opening is 180cm (5ft 11in) wide.
Croft Road Crossings - Grand Stand Road
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides of the crossing.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- After the crossing follow the pathway down and around to the right to the pedestrian crossing.
- The surface of the path is tarmac.
- It is uneven in places.
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides of the crossing.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- After the crossing continue ahead on the pathway around the edge of Worcester Race Course.
- The pathway is on a upward moderate slope as you continue ahead.
- There is a bollard located in the centre of the path.
- The surface is now smooth tarmac.
- As you approach Grand Stand Road bollards are located on the pathway.
- The crossing is located to the left.
Grand Stand Road Crossing
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides of the crossings.
- A bollard is located at the centre of the dropped kerb on the far side.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- After crossing turn right and continue ahead to Sabrina Bridge.
- The surface of the patheway is smooth tarmac as you approach the bridge.
Sabrina Bridge
- The surface of the first part of the bridge is block paving before becoming wooden slats.
- As you exit the bridge the surface turns back to block paving.
- It is uneven in places.
- There are a series of moderate or steep slopes on the bridge.
- On exiting the bridge continue straight ahead on Hylton Road.
Hylton Road - Henwick Road
- Continue north on Hylton Road.
- The surface of the pathway is tarmac.
- The condition of the pathway varies along the route.
- There are areas of uneven and very uneven tarmac.
- There are multiple dropped kerbs located along the pathway these are formed for a pedestrian crossing and the domestic housing located along Hylton Road.
- The pathway is initially on an easy gradient before becoming moderate and then steep as you progress.
- As you continue you will pass the university Severn Gate which is located to your left.
- After passing the Severn Gate the road becomes Henwick Road.
- The pedestrian crossing is located a short distance ahead.
Henwick Road Crossing
- The surface of the approach to the crossing is very uneven in places.
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- After crossing turn left and continue south on Henwick Road.
Henwick Road - Severn Gate
- The surface of the pathway is tarmac.
- It is very uneven in places.
- As the path turns to the right there is a dropped kerb with tactile paving that slopes down towards Henwick Road.
- Continue ahead before turning right onto the university access path that runs in front of Abillity House.
University Access Path
- Continue following the university access path.
- Ability House is located to the right as you progress.
- The surface of the path is smooth tarmac.
- It is uneven in places.
- The pathway is on an easy downward slope before sloping upwards towards the small pedestrian crossing over the access road for Ability House.
- The crossing has dropped kerbs on either side with no tactile paving.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- After the crossing continue ahead.
- As the pathway joins with the university access road the pathway is on an easy downward slope to the Car Park M crossing.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- There are dropped kerbs on both sides with tactile paving.
- After the crossing continue ahead.
- The pathway leads up and to the right and is on a moderate slope.
- The university access road crossing (Halls of Residence) is then located on your left.
University Access Road Crossing (Halls of Residence)
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides of the crossing.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- After the crossing continue straight ahead.
Continue on University Access Path
- The surface of the pathway is smooth tarmac.
- It is uneven in places.
- There is a dropped kerb on the pathway for vehicle access into the all weather pitch located on the right.
- The pathway is on an easy slope leading up to the university access road crossing (Hines Building).
- The crossing is located to the left.
University Access Road Crossing - Hines Building
- The crossing has no kerbs with tactile paving on both sides.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac with small metal strips on either side.
- On the far side of the crossing there are bollards.
- After crossing the surface becomes flagstones.
Continue on University Access Path
- Follow the pathway around the right hand side of the Hines Building.
- The surface of the pathway is flagstones.
- They are uneven in places.
- The Edward Elgar Building is located on the left.
- As you approach the Edward Elgar Building, located on the left, there is an area of block paving outside the rear entrance that slopes up and down before the surface becomes flagstones again.
- As you pass the Edward Elgar building there is a ramp.
- The surface of the ramp is tactile paving and is on a moderate gradient leading downwards.
- At the bottom of the ramp turn left and continue straight ahead.
- The surface of the pathway is now block paving.
- The path is on a moderate slope leading up.
- The Peirson Centre entrance is located on the right.
- The pathway levels off as you approach the Edward Elgar main entrance.
- The Edward Elgar Main Entrance is located on the left.
Outside Access (Edward Elgar Building Main Entrance)
- This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building.
- The main door(s) open automatically.
- The doors are double width.
- The door opening is 115cm (3ft 9in) wide.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.

- The doors are double width.
- The door opening is 130cm (4ft 3in) wide.
Reception (Edward Elgar Building)
- The desk/counter is 8m (8yd 2ft) from the main entrance.
- There is level access to the desk/counter from the entrance.
- The lighting levels are medium.
- The desk/counter is medium height (77cm - 109cm).
- The desk/counter has a low (76cm or lower) section.
- The desk/counter is staffed.
- There is not a hearing assistance system.
