Access Guide
Introduction
- This guide details the route between St Johns Campus and the City Campus.
Reception (Edward Elgar Building)
- The desk/counter is 8m (8yd 2ft) from the main entrance.
- There is level access to the desk/counter from the entrance.
- The lighting levels are medium.
- The desk/counter is medium height (77cm - 109cm).
- The desk/counter has a low (76cm or lower) section.
- The desk/counter is staffed.
- There is not a hearing assistance system.

Outside Access (Edward Elgar Building Main Entrance)
- This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building.
- The main door(s) open automatically.
- The doors are double width.
- The door opening is 115cm (3ft 9in) wide.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.

- The door opening is 130cm (4ft 3in) wide.
University Access Path
- Turn right outside the Edward Elgar Building and follow the pathway.
- The surface of the pathway is block paving.
- It is uneven in places.
- The Peirson Centre entrance is located on the left.
- The path is on a moderate slope leading down towards the conference centre entrance.
- Turn right at the bottom of the slope towards the ramp at the corner of the Edward Elgar Building and continue ahead.
- The surface of the ramp is tactile paving and is on a moderate gradient leading upwards.
- At the top of the ramp the surface is block paving.
- As you approach the Edward Elgar Building rear entrance located on the right there is an area of block paving outside the entrance that slopes up and down before the surface becomes flagstones again.
- The surface is uneven in places.
- Continue ahead following the pathway around the left hand side of the Hines Building.
- The crossing is then located opposite the Hines Building main entrance.
University Access Road Crossing - Hines Building
- The crossing has no kerbs with tactile paving on both sides.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac with small metal strips on either side.
- On the near side of the crossing there are bollards.
- After crossing, the surface becomes flagstones.
University Access Path
- After the crossing, turn right.
- The surface of the pathway is smooth tarmac.
- It is uneven in places.
- There is a dropped kerb on the pathway for vehicle access into the all weather pitch located on the left.
- The pathway is on an easy slope leading down to the University Access Road Crossing (Halls of Residence).
- The crossing is located ahead.
University Access Road Crossing - Halls of Residence
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides of the crossing.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- After the crossing follow the pathway down and around to the right.
- The pathway straight ahead leads to Car Park M.
University Access Path
- After the crossing continue ahead.
- The pathway leads down and to the right and is on a moderate slope.
- The surface of the pathway is tarmac.
- It is uneven in places.
- The pathway is on an upward slope towards the crossing over the entrance to Car Park M.
- The crossing has dropped kerbs on both sides with tactile paving.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- After the crossing the pathway is on an easy upward slope.
- At the top of the slope keep left on the pathway leading down towards a small pedestrian crossing over the access road for Ability House.
- The crossing has dropped kerbs on either side with no tactile paving.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- After the crossing continue ahead.
- The pathway is on an easy downward slope before sloping upwards towards Ability House.
- The surface of the path is smooth tarmac.
- It is uneven in places.
- At the end of the path turn left from Severn Gate on to Henwick Road.
Severn Gate - Henwick Road
- The surface of the pathway is tarmac.
- It is very unveven in places.
- As the path turns to the left there is a dropped kerb with tactile paving that slopes down towards Henwick Road.
- Continue ahead to the pedestrian crossing over Henwick Road.
Henwick Road Crossing
- The surface of the approach to the crossing is very uneven in places.
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- After crossing turn right and continue south on Henwick Road.
Henwick Road - Hylton Road
- As you continue you will pass the university Severn Gate which is located to your right.
- After passing the Severn Gate the road becomes Hylton Road.
- Continue south on Hylton Road.
- The surface of the pathway is tarmac.
- The condition of the pathway varies along the route.
- There are areas of uneven and and very uneven tarmac.
- There are multiple dropped kerbs located along the pathway for pedestrians crossing and the domestic housing located along Hylton Road.
- The pathway is initially on an easy gradient before becoming moderate and then steep as you progress down the slope.
- As the pathway levels off continue ahead past the Sabrina Bridge to the pedestrian crossing located on the right.
- Using the Sabrina Bridge located on the left of the pathway gives access to the City Campus and The Hive.
Sabrina Bridge
- The surface of the first part of the bridge is block paving before becoming wooden slats.
- As you exit the bridge, the surface turns back to block paving.
- It is uneven in places.
- There are a series of moderate or steep slopes on the bridge.
- A bollard is on the centre of the pathway as you exit the bridge.
- The surface now changes to smooth tarmac.
- On exiting the bridge, continue ahead on Grand Stand Road before turning left for the Grand Stand Road crossing.
Grand Stand Road Crossing
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides of the crossings.
- A bollard is located at the centre of the dropped kerb on the far side.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- After crossing, turn right and continue ahead to the Croft Road Crossings.
Grand Stand Road - Croft Road Crossings
- The surface of the pathway is tarmac.
- It is uneven in places.
- There are bollards at the start and towards the Croft Road crossing on the pathway.
- Follow the pathway around the edge of Worcester Race Course.
- There is a moderate slope leading down to the Croft Road Crossing.
- The crossing has dropped kerbs on each side with tactile paving.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- After the crossing turn left and continue ahead before following the pathway around to the right.
- A second crossing is located over the service road.
- There are dropped kerbs on both sides with tactile paving.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- Turn right after the crossing and continue ahead the City Campus Rear Entrance is then located on the left.
- The surface of the pathway is concrete.
- The pathway is narrow.
- The surface of the path is tarmac.
- It is uneven in places.
Outside Access (City Campus Rear Entrance)
- This information is for the entrance located off Croft Road.
- The main door(s) open automatically (away from you).
- The doors are single width.
- The door opening is 112cm (3ft 8in) wide.

City Campus Access Ramp

- The gradient of the ramp varies between easy and steep.
- A pair of bollards are located on the pathway as you reach the top, turn right after the bollards.
- At this turn the surface becomes block paving.
- It is uneven in places.
- At the base of the ramp to the rear of Mulberry House the pathway turns to the right.
- They are uneven in places.
- Turn left at the end of the ramp and continue ahead to the City Campus Accessible Entrance.
City Campus Access Ramp - City Campus Accessible Entrance
- The surface of the pathway is block paving.
- It is uneven in places.
- The pathway is on a moderate downward slope before leveling off as you approach the City Campus accessible entrance.
Outside Access (City Campus Accessible Entrance)
- This information is for the entrance located at the front of the McClelland Centre.
- The intercom is in a suitable position to allow wheelchair users to gain access.
- The main door(s) open automatically (towards you).
- The doors are single width.
- The door opening is 85cm (2ft 9in) wide.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.

Lift (City Campus Accessible Entrance)
- The lift is located immediately after the accessible entrance.
