Useful Information

Getting Here (Zone 6)

  • By Road View
    • To reach the University approach from the junction of the A64 and A1079 on the east of the city, from where the University is signposted.
    • The main car parks in Zone 6 are Car Park 6.1 (Campus South), Car Park 6.2 (Campus West) and Car park 6.3 (Sports Centre) which has free parking for permit holders and pay and display parking.
      Additional Blue Badge bays are located near James College Blocks P and Q.
      Parking is limited, and visitor parking is on a pay and display basis (see the campus map for locations). Parking costs £1.30 for one hour, £2.50 for two hours, £3.80 for three hours, £5 for four hours, £8 for ten hours and is free at weekends and between 6pm and 8am. You can pay using coins or with a mobile phone using Paysmarti.
      There are accessible parking spaces in all University car parks.
  • By Bus View
    • Travel between campus and York city centre takes about 20 minutes. Buses have free wifi and accept contactless payment: 66 - From: York train station. To: The University. This bus takes you from Heslington Hall to Campus East via Field Lane. 67 - From: York train station. To: York Sport Village. Like the 66, once on campus this service travels to Campus East via Field Lane, and continues onto York Sport Village. All buses on the 66 route from the train station to the University are wheelchair-accessible. Outside rush hour periods, the journey takes around 20 minutes. Transport on the 66 and 68 (previously known as the UB1 route) between Campus West and East is free for staff and students. Please note the 68 does go on to Grimston Bar Park and Ride however this is chargeable and not part of the free zone.
  • By Train View
    • There is a frequent, fast train service to York on the main East Coast Line from London King’s Cross to Edinburgh. There is also a direct service between York, Leeds and Manchester Airport.
      The University is a short bus or taxi ride direct from the railway station.
