Access Guide
Introduction
- The information in this guide describes the route from the Campus East Interchange to the Computer Science Building.
- This route is approximately 382m.
- The route crosses the road to the coach stop and crosses Deramore Lane twice.
- The crossings do not have pedestrian controls.
- There are slight gradients along this route.
- The surface of the footpath is tarmac and resin bound gravel.
Campus East Interchange to Deramore Lane
- There is a campus map at the Campus East Interchange showing the location of all buildings throughout both campuses.
- There are covered bus stops with seats at the interchange.
- From the interchange head down a slight gradient towards a roundabout.
- The surface of the path is tarmac.
- After approximately 18m, turn left and proceed along the path at the edge of the car park and continue straight ahead for approximately 15m.
- There is a crossing point to cross over the road out from the Campus East Coach Stop.
- The road is generally quiet with traffic passing from left to right.
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving at the crossing point.
- After crossing, proceed straight ahead for approximately 15m.
- Bear right onto the main pathway.
- The surface becomes resin bound gravel and is uneven in places.
- The path narrows, but remains over 150cm wide.
- There is a slight gradient across the path downwards from right to left.
- Continue along the path for approximately 32m to Deramore Lane.
- There is a bollard at the edge of the path just before Deramore Lane.
- The bollard narrows the width of the path to 126cm.
Cross Deramore Lane
- The surface of Deramore Lane is resin bound gravel and is uneven and worn in places.
- Deramore Lane is a very quiet road and is on a one-way system.
- Traffic at this crossing travels from left to right.
- There is no tactile paving at this crossing.
- There is a slight lip on the edge of the path caused by the kerb stones.
Central Pathway
- The surface of the path is resin bound gravel and uneven in some places.
- Proceed along the path straight ahead for approximately 18m.
- There is a large junction area on the footpath.
- Continue along the path ahead of you, the second exit in the large junction area.
- The path continues through the large open green space in the centre of the campus.
- There is a slight downwards slope along the path.
- After approximately 44m the path levels out.
- Bear slight left and cross over the wide central path proceeding onto the narrower path ahead (photographs 6 and 7).
- After approximately 40m, proceed past a small path and exit to the right.
- Continue along the path for approximately 25m and bear right onto a widening path (photograph 13).
- This path becomes more uneven and wider.
- At the widest point this area is the drop off point for the Ron Cooke Hub and other areas of Campus East.
- After approximately 25m the path ends at Deramore Lane.
Cross Deramore Lane
- The surface of Deramore Lane is resin bound gravel.
- There is no designated crossing point.
- There are no dropped kerbs or raised kerbs.
- There are kerb stones marking the edge of the road and footpath.
- Deramore Lane is a very quiet road and traffic passes from right to left at this point.
- After crossing Deramore Lane there is a patch of uneven pathway with a combination of tarmac and resin bound gravel.
Deramore Lane to Computer Science Building
- Proceed along the side of the Ron Cooke Hub.
- The surface of the path is resin bound gravel and block paving.
- There are bollards after approximately 20m.
- The bollards are over 150cm wide.
- Continue along the path with the Ron Cooke Hub to the left for approximately 62m.
- After the bend, proceed past the footpath off to the right and continue to head towards the Computer Science Building, around the rear of the Ron Cooke Hub (photograph 6).
- Continue along the path for approximately 20m and then bear right.
- There are bollards on the path in front of the Computer Science Building.
- The bollards are over 150cm wide.
- After the bollards the surface of the path becomes wooden decking and may be slippery in wet or icy conditions.
- Proceed along the decking for approximately 15m to the accessible entrance door at the left hand side of the entrance area.
Outside Access (Main Entrance)

- This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building.
- There is step free access at this entrance.
- There is not a bell/buzzer.
- There is an intercom.
- The height of the intercom is 100cm (3ft 3in).
- There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
- The main door(s) open(s) automatically.
- The door(s) is / are single.
- The width of the door opening is 110cm (3ft 7in).
