Introduction

Outside Access (Main Entrance)

  • Entrance View
    • This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building.
    • There is step free access at this entrance.
    • There is not a bell/buzzer.
    • There is not an intercom.
    • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
    • The main door(s) open(s) automatically (towards you).

    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of less than 2cm.
  • Second Set of Doors View
    • There is a second set of doors.
    • The door(s) open(s) both ways.
    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The door(s) is/are permanently held open.
    • The width of the door opening is 155cm (5ft 1in).

Central Hall to Vanbrugh College

  • Upon exiting the Central Hall via the main entrance, turn left down the slight slope.
  • The path here is block paved and cloistered.
  • At the bottom of the slope turn left and continue along the cloistered path to Vanbrugh College.

Vanbrugh College Nucleus Rear Entrance to University Road Bridge Lift

  • From the rear entrance to the Vanbrugh College Nucleus (photograph 1) turn right and continue along the path for approximately 90m.
  • The surface of the pathway is concrete paving slabs and there is a slight slope.
  • Part way up the slope turn right and take the path past the IT Services entrance (photograph 4, 5 and 6)
  • Continue ahead and at the end of the building turn right. Follow the path towards a ramp with rails on both sides and a width of 120cm (photograph 9).
  • At the bottom of the ramp turn left and head towards the lift (photograph 10 and 11).

Lift (Library Bridge)

  • There is a lift for public use.
  • The lift is located to the right of the library bridge, on the lower level.
  • The lift is a standard lift.
  • The floors which are accessible by this lift are G, 1.
  • Wall mounted information boards are not provided at lift landings.
  • The weight limit for the lift is 630 kg.
  • Staff do not need to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The clear door width is 90cm (2ft 11in).
  • The dimensions of the lift are 106cm x 140cm (3ft 6in x 4ft 7in).
  • There are separate entry and exit doors in the lift.
  • There is not a mirror to aid reversing out of the lift.
  • The lift does have a visual floor indicator.
  • The lift does have an audible announcer.
  • The lift does not have a hearing enhancement system.
  • The lift does not have Braille markings.
  • The lift does have tactile markings.
  • The controls for the lift are within 90cm - 120cm from the floor.
  • The lighting level in the lift is moderate to good.
  • Comments View
    • There is an intercom at a height of 105cm for the lift.
    • The lift as it appears on the upper bridge level is shown in photograph 3.
    • On the upper level, there is a long slight ramp that leads directly from the lift to the front of the University Library, with a width of 116cm and handrails on both sides (photographs 6 and 7).

University Library to Morrell Way Bridge

  • Upon reaching the top of the ramp, turn right and continue along the block paved surface path for approximately 85m to the Morrell Way Bridge.

Morrell Way Bridge to the Alcuin East Wing

  • After approximately 85m you will encounter the Morrell Bridge (photograph 1) which has slight slopes on either side and is 30m in length.
  • On the other side of the bridge, turn left and continue for approximately 20m (photograph 2) before turning right and continuing for approximately 70m to head around Alcuin East Wing and Seebohm Rowntree Building.
  • The surface of the pavement in block paving and there is a slight uphill slope.
  • After 70m you will encounter a steep slope.
  • At the top of the slope turn left.

Alcuin East Wing and Seebohm Rowntree Building to Alcuin College Block D

  • After turning left at the top of the slope, continue for approximately 20m.
  • As the surface of the pavement turns from concrete slab paving to tarmac (photographs 1 and 2) continue and take the path immediately ahead (photographs 3 and 4).
  • This path has a slight downwards gradient and is approximately 40m long.
  • At the bottom of the slope turn left through the block paved seating area to the Alcuin College Block D Main Entrance a distance of approximately 30m.
  • This area is used as seating for the Vedge cafe.
  • After heading through this area, you will arrive at the main entrance for Alcuin College Block D.
  • The main Alcuin College Reception is located just inside the entrance.

Outside Access (Main Entrance)

    • There is ramped/sloped or stepped access at this entrance.
    • There is not a bell/buzzer.
    • There is not an intercom.
    • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.

    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The width of the door opening is 155cm (5ft 1in).
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.
  • Ramp/Slope View
    • There is a ramp/slope at this entrance.
    • The ramp/slope is located to the left as you face the entrance.
    • The ramp/slope does bypass the step(s).
    • The ramp/slope gradient is slight.
    • The ramp is permanent.
    • There is not a level landing at the top of the ramp.
    • The ramp does have handrails.
    • The handrails are on both sides.
  • Step(s) View
    • There is a / are step(s) at this entrance.
    • The step(s) is / are located in front of the entrance.
    • There is / are 3 step(s) to access the entrance.
    • There is not tactile paving at the top and bottom of the step(s).
