This guide covers the main shopping area of High Street.
This guide runs from the junction of Chequer Street, Holywell Hill and London Road to the junction with George Street and Verulam Road.

Junction - High Street, London Road, Holywell Hill and Chequer Street
- There are several pedestrian crossings at this junction to cross Chequer Street, London Road, Holywell Hill and High Street.
- These crossings have dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides.
- The pedestrian crossings are push button controlled with visual signals.
- The surface of the roads at all crossings is tarmac.
- The surface of the pathways at all crossings is block paving.
- There is a steep downhill slope from the junction into Holywell Hill.
- There is a steep downhill slope from the junction into London Road.
- There is a steep uphill slope from the junction into High Street.
- There is a steep uphill slope from the junction into Chequer Street.
St Peter's Street to Market Place
- The pathways on both sides of the road in this section are formed of concrete tiles/block paving.
- The pathways on both sides are fairly wide.
- There is a steep uphill slope leading from the junction of London Road, St Peter's Street and Holywell Hill towards the junction with Market Place.

- There is a steep uphill slope into High Street from the junction with High Street, Verulam Road and George Street.
