About this venue

We are a woodland campsite with 50 pitches over 30 acres. At Badgells Wood we’re on a mission to inspire a love of the woods. We’ve created an experience as close to wild camping as possible. A chance to immerse yourselves in our beautiful ancient woodland and allow nature, and the magic of the campfire, to send you home feeling healthy, energised and relaxed. A stay at Badgells Wood is a chance to disconnect from the everyday and reconnect with nature, with others and with yourself. A place for creating lasting memories with your loved ones.

Summary

  • Badgells Wood is a wild camping experience, with a chance to immerse yourselves in ancient woodland.
    There are 50 pitches with various workshops and activities, such as survival skills, archery or axe throwing.
    The site is divided into the Oaks, Great Park (adults only), Bells in the Woods (6 bell tents) and Tudor Springs (8 campervan and various standard pitches).

    Some of the site is accessed by car and the rest is via woodland paths which have slight or steep slopes. The bell tents and archery range have stepped access.
    The site is dog friendly with water bowls and supplies available. Dogs are not allowed in the bell tents.

Entrance (Badgells Wood - Vehicular Site Entrance)

Paths

  • The paths around the site are well signed.
  • The paths to the pitches, activity areas or other areas of the site consist of gravel, loose chippings, wood chip, concrete or mud.
  • As the paths navigate through the woodland, there are slight slopes and uneven areas along the paths. However, the paths are step-free and over 75cm wide in most places.
  • Photograph 5 shows one of the colour coded posts at the entrance to various paths across the site.
  • The map given at reception can be used to locate yourself via these colours.

Pitches

  • There are four main areas for pitches: The Oaks, Great Park, Bells in the Woods and Tudor Springs.
  • The Oaks has various single or double pitches, depending on the number of tents (photographs 1-4).
  • Great Park is an adult only camping area with similar pitches.
  • Bells in the Woods has 6 bell tents, accessed via steps with parking available for each. The steps range up to 17cm high (photographs 5-9).
  • Tudor Springs has 24 pitches with reserved parking (photographs 10 and 11). The pitches are child friendly and good for groups as some are only 10 metres apart from each other, meaning children are in sight.
  • There are 8 campervan pitches.

Steps (Bell Tents)

  • There are 3 steps.
  • The steps are not clearly marked and there are no handrails.

Showers and Sinks

  • There is one shower block with four individual stepped shower rooms (photographs 1-6). They are located close to reception in the southern part of the Bells in the Woods.
  • There are 2 larger and 2 smaller cubicles. They have 2 steps to access them, with the highest being 18cm. The coat hooks are 160cm high.
  • There are 2 separate areas with sinks and running water onsite, both close to reception and signed on the map (photographs 7 and 8).
  • The sinks are 95cm high.

Eating and Drinking (Catering Vans and Gazebos)

  • There is ramped/sloped access.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • There is not a low level counter at the recommended height for wheelchair users.
  • The seating area has: room for a wheelchair user, tables which are accessible to wheelchair users and chairs without armrests.
  • The seating area does not have: a priority table.
  • There are no tables which are at a recommended height for a wheelchair user.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs.
  • There is a range of catering vans and gazebos in this area. There are various picnic tables. There are 2 water points with signed drinking water. The push buttons are approximately 95cm high. One of the water points has sloped access.

Activities

  • There are two activity areas under canopies with picnic tables, benches and fire pits (photographs 1-3). They have step-free access, but the wood chip/ loose chippings mean the ground is uneven.
  • There is a play area close to the Bells in the Woods toilets and showers (photograph 4).
  • Photograph 5-7 show the archery range with stepped access.
  • Photographs 8-10 show the axe throwing range with a step-free access and a door over 75cm wide.
  • Photographs 11 and 12 show the area used for den building with step-free access.

Steps (Archery Range)

  • There are 2 steps.
  • The steps are not clearly marked but there is a handrail on the left.

Standard Toilet(s)

  • There is stepped access into the toilet(s).
  • The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
  • The seven toilet blocks contain compost toilets, with flush toilets coming in the future.
    Some of the toilet doors have good colour contrast, whilst others don't.
    The toilets all have stepped access.
    There is level access to the urinals to the rear of the blocks.
