Walking Tours in St Andrews - Town Walking Tour

  • Walking Tours in St Andrews provide guided walking tours around the main sights of St Andrews.
  • The public daily tours include the 11am Town Tour as described below, or a 5pm evening Wee Walk & A Cocktail Tour.
  • All tours start at the Martyrs' Monument, The Scores, St Andrews.

Public Transport

    St Andrews bus station is located on City Road, approximately 400 metres (0.3 miles) southwest of the Martyrs' Monument.

  • Leuchars Station is approximately 5 miles northwest of St Andrews with regular direct bus links to the town centre.

  • Obstacles from the Blue Badge bays to the entrance include: slopes/ramps and dropped kerbs.

  • The parking is on The Scores with two Blue Badge bays adjacent to the path to the Martyrs' Monument.
    The nearest public pay and display car park to the Martyrs' Monument is off Bruce Embankment, approximately 250 metres north of the monument. Blue Badge parking is free.
    There is a steep slope on the path up to the Martyrs' Monument.
    There is an additional pay and display car cark on Murray Place, approximately 280 metres southeast of the Martyrs' Monument. There is no Blue Badge parking in this car park.

  • The tour takes place during daytime hours and during evening hours.
  • The tour route is mostly lit.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: cobbled, tarmac, gravel, grass, block paving and paving slabs.
  • Some of the tour contains steep gradients.
  • These can be found in the following area(s): the path down to Golf Place/Bruce Embankment, The Scores at Golf Place end.
  • The tour can be adapted.
  • A portable hearing loop or headset is not available.
  • The tour route travels through areas which are busy with traffic and pedestrians.
  • The tour enters venues along the route with step-free access, stepped access and doors widths over 75cm.

    Bicycles may reduce the width of pavements at any point around the town.
    There are unmarked bollards on The Scores and Lodges Lane / Church Square.

    The pavements on North Church Street narrow to 66cm on the left and 100cm on the right looking toward the castle.
    There are no dropped kerbs at the Castle or at the end of South Street outside the Cathedral.
    The Cathedral graveyard and "Tommy Morris's'' grave are not recommended for wheelchair users, those with mobility difficulties, and those with visual impairments, due to uneven ground, stones and temporary routing due to repairs to gravestones.
    There is a narrow arch, 75cm wide with a slight slope on South Street. This can only be bypassed by using the road.
    There is a pelican crossing across Abbey Street, and a zebra crossing across South Street to reach Lodges Lane / Church Square.
    There are benches at the start of the tour by The Martyrs' Monument, at St Salvador's Quadrangle, at St Mary's Quad, and at the end of the tour on Lodges Lane / Church Square.

  • The entrance door to the toilets is 73cm wide.
