Access Guide
Public Transport
- There is a bus stop within approximately 150m of the site.
- The nearest train station is Windsor & Eton Central or Windsor & Eton Riverside.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located off Castle Hill.
- There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
- The steep ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- The ramp overcomes the steps.
- There are 10+ steps, which are unmarked, with handrails on both sides.
- Steps are split with a resting area.
- The handrails cover all steps.
- There are double manual doors which opens both ways.
- The width of the opening is 190cm.
- There is a second set of manual doors which opens both ways.
- The width of the opening is 195cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.
Counter (Admissions)
- There is step-free level access to the counter.
- The height of the counter is 81cm.
- The counter is placed in front of a patterned background.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There is background noise here.
- The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
- There are bench seats available in the counter area.
- There is an airport style security area beyond the admission centre.

There are a set of double width doors which are 175cm wide and are permanently held open.
The width between the security barriers is 75cm.
Staff can provide assistance if needed.
The Admissions Centre desks now have a 'Call forward system' - 'Please go to counter number 3'.
Exit (to Lord Chamberlain's Lower Yard)
- The exit is located at the rear of the security area.
- There is step-free level access at the exit.
- There are double manual doors which open away from you.
- The doors are activated by a push pad at a suitable height for seated users (between 75cm - 100cm).
- The width of the opening is 180cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the exit with a height of less than 1.5cm.
Toilet with Adaptations (Lord Chamberlain’s Lower Yard - Right Hand Transfer)
- This toilet is located to the left of Lord Chamberlain's Lower Yard as you exit security.
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 97cm.
- The door has a twist lock.
- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 195cm x 290cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat.
- The lateral transfer space is 140cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
- There is a wall sensor flush on the wall above the toilet.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
- There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
- The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder, wash basin and soap dispenser.

- The widest cubicle door is 58cm.
- There is an ambulant cubicle available with horizontal grab rails on both sides.
- The wash basin tap type is sensor.
- There are hand dryers.
Standard Toilet (Male - Lord Chamberlain's Lower Yard)
- Access into the toilet is via a steep ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the door opening is 77cm.
- The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
- The widest cubicle door is 62cm.
- There is an ambulant cubicle available with horizontal grab rails on both sides.
- The wash basin tap type is sensor.

Parent and Baby Room / Baby Feeding Room (Lord Chamberlain’s Lower Yard)
- There is step-free level access into the room.
- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.

- There is no seating available in the room.
- There is a toilet in the parent and baby room.
- Waste bins include: a nappy bin, a general waste bin without lid and a sanitary bin.
Route to (Moat Room and Middle Ward Shop)
- There is a steep slope leading from Lord Chamberlain's Lower Yard to the Moat Room and Middle Ward Shop.
