Access Guide
Route to (Moat Room and Middle Ward Shop)
- There is a steep slope leading from Lord Chamberlain's Lower Yard to the Moat Room and Middle Ward Shop.
There are wardens located along the route.
There is signage along the route.
There may be staff vehicles using the access road. - The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
Entrance (Moat Room and Multimedia Counter)
- The entrance surveyed is located along the visitor route.
- There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
- The steep slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 125cm.
Counter (Multimedia Guide)
- There is step-free level access to the counter.
- The height of the counter is 89cm.
- There is not a low level counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There may be background noise here.
Exit (Moat Room and Multimedia Counter)
- The exit is located at the far end of the Moat Room.
- There is step-free access via slope at the exit.
- The slight slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 125cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the exit with a height of less than 1.5cm.
Entrance (Middle Ward Shop)
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the shop.
- There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
- The slight slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 175cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm
Shop (Middle Ward)

- Some of the flooring has a very shiny finish, which could cause issues with glare or look slippery to some people.

- The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
