  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 90cm.
  • The door has a locking handle (with a RADAR key to access).
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 150cm x 220cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat.
  • The lateral transfer space is 80cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a wall sensor flush on the wall above the cistern.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.

Entrance (North Terrace State Apartments - Stepped Access)

  • The entrance surveyed is located off the North Terrace.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There are 10+ steps, which are unmarked, with a central handrail.
  • The handrail covers all steps.
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 225cm.
  • There is a second manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 90cm.
  • There are 10+ steps beyond the entrance, which are unmarked, with handrails on both sides.

Lift (North Terrace to Accessible Entrance - State Apartments)

  • This lift is a platform lift (staff assistance required).
  • The lift overcomes a small level change.
  • The lift does have a recommended turning space (150cm x 150cm) in front of it.
  • The lift door opening width is 89cm.
  • The dimensions of the lift are 150cm x 240cm.
  • Internally the lift has: controls at a suitable height for a wheelchair user, a separate door to exit, buttons with a medium colour contrast to the surroundings and tactile markings.

Entrance (North Terrace State Apartments - Accessible)

  • The entrance surveyed is located ahead after you exit the lift.
  • There is step-free access via lift at the entrance.
  • There are double manual doors which open towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 127cm.

Entrance (Engine Court - State Apartments Ramped Access)

  • The entrance surveyed is located off Engine Court.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with a handrail on the left going up.
  • The ramp overcomes the steps.
  • There are 4 steps, which are unmarked, with handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails cover all steps.
  • All of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 106cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm
  • This entrance can also be used to exit the State Apartments.

Attraction / Exhibit (Doll House - Inner Hall)

  • The door has a twist lock.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 220cm x 225cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat.

Lift (State Apartments)

  • A member of staff needs to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The floors which are accessible by this lift are 0, 1.
  • Externally the lift has: a door with a medium colour contrast to the surroundings, controls at a suitable height for a wheelchair user, tactile markings and buttons with a high colour contrast to the surroundings.

  • Internally the lift has: a visual floor indicator, an audible announcer, buttons with a high colour contrast to the surroundings, a mirror to aid reversing, controls at a suitable height for a wheelchair user, a hearing assistance alarm system and tactile markings.
  • The lift is located off the Inner Hall.

Stairs (Grand Staircase to State Apartments)

  • There are 14 steps between floors.
  • The steps are not clearly marked with handrails on both sides.

Tour (State Apartments)

  • The tour is self-guided and volunteers/staff are not available to provide additional information.
  • The tour takes approximately 2 hours.
  • There is stepped access along the tour route.
  • The majority of walkway widths are over 180cm.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise along the tour route.
  • Tour information includes the following formats: audio description, handheld information devices, multi-language audio, BSL and subtitles.
  • There are bench seats at regular intervals along the tour.
  • Some flooring along the tour route is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
  • Some of the flooring includes large repeating patterns in bold colours, which may look like steps or holes to some people.
  • Lighting levels are varied throughout the tour route.
  • There is a slight ramp/slope leading from the Queen's Guard Chamber to St George's Hall.

  • There is step-free level access into the shop.
  • The door is manual, permanently held open and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.

  • There is step-free level access around the shop.
  • There is background noise here.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 104cm.

  • The steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
