- This guide covers the main area of King's Parade, Marine Retail Park, up to Perch Rock car park in New Brighton.
The Ian Fraser Walk goes from the junction of King's Parade and Coastal Drive to Perch Rock car park.
This guide runs from the junction of King's Parade, Coastal Drive at the west end and the junction of Perch Rock car park and Marine Promenade at the east end.
The route is approximately 1.4 miles (2253 metres) long, and takes approximately 30 minutes.
Pathway have surfaces of concrete paving slabs, tarmac and block paving.
The pathways have some uneven sections, which include some raised manhole covers.
The road surfaces are tarmac, with dropped kerbs and tactile paving at most crossing points.
There are opportunities to sit and rest.
This route is steep along the sub-route up to New Brighton railway station, but elsewhere it step-free level or has a very easy slope.

From the junction of Coastal Drive and King's Parade leading up to Tower Promenade, there is Blue Badge and standard on-street parking available.
Blue Badge holders must display their badge clearly in the front window.

There are several free car parks along this route, such as King's Parade by Bubbles' World of Play, Marine Retail Park, Marine Point Retail & Leisure Park and Perch Rock.
Ian Fraser Walk - Pedestrian Walkway
- The Ian Fraser Walk starts from the junction of Coastal Drive and King's Parade through to Marine Promenade (Perch Rock Car Park).
The route is approximately 0.6 miles (966 metres) long, and takes approximately 15 -20 minutes to walk.
There are plenty of opportunities to sit, rest and enjoy the view.
There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as signs, railings, cycle racks, bins, bollards and signboards.
The pathways are tarmac and concrete.
There are various access points along King's Parade leading to the walkway and to the beach along this route.
Along this route, you will pass the boating pond, Bubbles' World of Play, Marine Retail Park, Travelodge, Marine Point Retail & Leisure Park and various restaurants and coffee shops.
Junction Coastal Drive - King's Parade (Pierrot Statue)
- There are several crossing points at this junction to cross Coastal Drive and King's Parade.
There are safe crossings on both sides of King's Parade and on Coastal Drive.
All crossings have dropped kerbs and some have tactile paving on both sides.
The pathways are tarmac and paving slabs.
There is signage at this junction.
Coastal Drive - Portland Street via King's Parade

The pathways on both sides are wide.
There are some uneven areas on the pathways throughout this section.
There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as signs, railings, cycle racks, bins, bollards and signboards.
There is ample seating.
There is on-street parking on the seaward side of the road.
Parking is restricted to 2 hours between 8am and 6pm, with no return within 1 hour. There are no restrictions from 6pm through to 8am.
Junction Portland Street - King's Parade

The safe crossings on King's Parade and Portland Street have dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides.
The pathways on both sides of the road are paving slabs and tarmac.
There is a free car park next to Bubbles' World of Play with 3 Blue Badge bays available.
Portland Street to Atherton Street via King's Parade

The pathways on both sides are wide.
There is ample seating.
There are some uneven areas on the pathways throughout this section.
There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as signposts, railings, bus stops and bins and planters.

Junction King's Parade - Atherton Street - New Brighton Station
- There are several crossings at this junction to cross King's Parade and Atherton Street.
The pedestrian crossings that have dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides.
The pedestrian crossings are push button controlled with visual signals. The height of the buttons range from 100cm to 113cm.
The surface of the roads is tarmac.
The surface of the pathways is block paving and tarmac.
There is a retail park off this junction with a large free public car park with numerous Blue Badge bays.
Atherton Street - New Brighton Station
- Atherton Street is located opposite Marine Point Retail Park.
New Brighton Station is at the top end of Atherton Street and the route is via a steep hill.
The route is approximately 0.2 miles (322 metres) long and takes approximately 10-15 minutes to walk.
The pathways are tarmac and concrete paving.
The pathways have some uneven sections, which include some raised manhole covers.
The road surfaces are tarmac, with dropped kerbs and tactile paving at most crossing points.
Atherton Street to Rowson Street via King's Parade
- The pathways on both sides of the road in this section are formed of tarmac, concrete and block paving.
The pathways on both sides are wide.
There are some uneven areas on the pathways throughout this section.
There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides, such as signposts, bus stops and bins and large rocks.
There is a pedestrian crossing along this section of the route which is push button controlled with visual signals. The height of the buttons range from 104cm to 110cm.
There is no parking available on this section of the route.
Junction Rowson Street - Marine Pound Retail and Leisure Park via King's Parade

The pathways are tarmac and block paving.
Perch Rock car park is a free.

Perch Rock Car Park - The Beatles Monument via Marine Promenade
- The pathways on both sides of the road in this section are formed of tarmac, concrete and block paving.
The pathways on both sides are wide.
There are some uneven areas on the pathways throughout this section.
There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as signs, railings, cycle racks, bins, bollards and signboards.
There is ample seating along the promenade.
There is on-street parking on both sides of the road.
Parking is restricted Monday to Saturday, 8am until 6pm, with no return within 1 hour. There are no restrictions from 6pm through to 8am.
