King's Birthday Honours for AccessAble Ambassadors Emma Muldoon and Tanvi Vyas
At AccessAble we are incredibly proud to work with a network of amazing Ambassadors. Quite simply, they are a brilliant bunch of disabled people, passionate about educating and campaigning for better. From publishing books, podcasts and blogs to sharing their voices in parliament, on committees and at events, we’re always amazed by how hard our Ambassadors work to offer new perspectives about disability.
We’ve been feeling especially proud lately as our Ambassadors Emma Muldoon and Tanvi Vyas have been recognised by none other than HRH King Charles for their remarkable achievements!
In June, Emma Muldoon was awarded a British Empire Medal for her services to disabled people.
Based in Scotland, Emma is a powerchair user with Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy who was named on the 2024 Shaw Trust Disability Power 100 List as one of the UK’s leading disability influencers.
For the past ten years, Emma has curated an award-winning accessible travel and disability blog, ‘Simply Emma,’ where she combines personal stories with accessible travel guides, accommodation reviews, live event reviews, travel tips and resources from the perspective of a wheelchair user. By sharing her many adventures, Emma has carved out a career as a leading disability travel advocate and has used her platform to challenge public attitudes and misconceptions whilst helping create positive change for the disabled community.
After receiving her British Empire Medal from the Lord Lieutenant on behalf of King Charles, Emma said:
“I feel incredibly honoured to have been awarded a British Empire Medal in recognition of my work. It inspires me to continue sharing my experiences and advocating for accessibility, empowering other disabled people to embrace new travel and everyday experiences.”
We are also thrilled for Tanvi Vyas, a freelance Disability Equality Consultant and Trainer, who was recognised on the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours list for services to transport and will receive her MBE at a forthcoming official ceremony.
Tanvi has a neuromuscular condition and is a full-time powerchair user who lives in London. A Vice-President for Muscular Dystrophy UK, Tanvi has spoken in parliament as well as having appeared on regional and national television, radio, online and in-print publications to raise awareness of the challenges faced by disabled people.
As a transport specialist and a member of various travel advisory committees and panels, Tanvi works wonders to champion diversity, access and inclusion in policy and practice. She is passionate about bringing elements of intersectionality into conversations around being disabled and finding creative solutions to reduce and remove barriers.
Speaking about her recent honour, Tanvi said:
''It is an honour and privilege to be awarded an MBE for services to Transport. I am pleased accessibility and inclusion are recognised as being of crucial importance and thankful for individuals who have given me opportunities over time. There have been strides forward, but there is still a lot of work to do. It was a huge surprise for me, and I am still wondering who nominated me!''
Congratulations to both Emma and Tanvi!
We are so proud to work with these wonderful women as they help to blaze a trail and make the world a better place for disabled people.
