Getting To The Hospital (Newham University Hospital)

  • By Road View
    • The main hospital building and the West Wing are on Glen Road, Plaistow.
      The Gateway Surgical Centre is on Cherry Tree Way, at the end of Glen Road.
      Glen Road is off the A112 Prince Regent Lane, which connects Stratford to the north and the A13 Newham Way to the south of the hospital.
    • The main pay and display car park with Blue Badge bays is to the east of the hospital, close to the main entrance and St Andrew's Wing.
      The Gateway Surgical Centre has its own pay and display car park with Blue Badge bays.
  • By Bus View
    • Buses 304, 276 and 376 travel along Glen Road and have stops close to the west entrance and the main entrance.
      Bus 276 also stops at the Gateway Surgical Centre.
      Buses 147, 262 and 473 stop on Prince Regent Lane, close to Glen Road.
      The nearest stops are outside the Newham Sixth Form College. This is about 250m from the West Entrance to the hospital.
      All London buses have an automatic ramp and a dedicated space for wheelchair users.
    • There is an onsite bus stop.
    • There are 2 bus stops located along Glen Road.
      Stop HG takes you close to the Main Hospital Entrance and stop HC takes you close to the West Entrance. The buses that stop here are the 276, 304 and 376.
      There is also a bus stop outside the Gateway Surgical Centre.
    • The onsite bus stops are sheltered, have benched seating and there is space for a wheelchair user.
    • The route from bus stop HG to the main hospital entrance is approximately 61 metres.
      From the bus stop, continue along Glen Road until you pass the road crossing and then turn left towards the main hospital.
      The road crossing has tactile paving and protrudes onto the pavement, making it a steep gradient, so assistance may be required when following the path.
      The surfaces along this part of the route consist of uneven concrete paving.
      Once you have turned left, the surface becomes block paving and takes a slight downwards slope towards the second road crossing.
      There are bollards on the approach to the road crossing which have a poor colour contrast and the block paving is uneven.
      There is a dropped kerb at the road crossing with tactile paving and a slight downwards slope onto the road.
      Turn left at the road crossing and continue along the road until you reach the next dropped kerb leading up to the main hospital entrance.
      Please be aware that this is a busy road into the car park.
      There is no alternative route to get to the main hospital entrance, so visitors will have to go onto the road for part of the journey.
      The surface of the road is tarmac and has road markings.
      The dropped kerb leading up to the main hospital entrance has tactile paving and a slight upwards slope.
      There are bollards after the dropped kerb.
      Turn right then left after the dropped kerb and make your way up the slight slope leading up to the main hospital entrance.
  • By Train View
    • The nearest train stations are West Ham and Stratford.
      Stratford is a major interchange with the underground, overground and DLR networks.
      There is also a bus station. Service 276 from here connects with the hospital.
      The nearest DLR (Docklands Light Railway) stations are Prince Regent, Canning Town and West Ham.
      There is step-free access from train to street at all DLR stations.
  • By Underground View
    • The nearest underground station is Plaistow on the District and Hammersmith and City lines.
      There is no step-free access from platform to street at this station.
      Other nearby stations which do have step-free access include West Ham (which also serves the Jubilee Line, national rail and DLR) and Canning Town.
      Canning Town station serves the Jubilee Line and DLR and also has a bus station.

Getting Help and Assistance (Newham University Hospital)
