Overview

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • Toilet Facilities View
    • There are 3 toilets with adaptations.
    • Toilets with adaptations are located on the first floor.
    • The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.
    • There are ground floor toilets with adaptations and a Changing Places toilet within the adjoining SEC Centre, please refer to the separate guide for details.
    • Ambulant toilet facilities are located on the ground floor, near the Lomond Auditorium.
    • The male and female step-free toilet facilities are located on the ground floor, near the Lomond Auditorium and on the first floor.
  • Changing Places and Changing Facilities View
    • Parent and baby changing facilities are located within the standard toilets near the rear of the Lomond Auditorium.

Parking (SEC Public Car Park)

  • Public Car Parks View
    • There is a public car park located off Finnieston Street.
    • The name of the car park is SEC and Hydro Car Park.
    • Designated Blue Badge parking bays are available in the car park.
    • There is lift access down to ground level on either side of the car park link bridge walkway.
      The four internal car park lifts have slightly larger dimensions, although there is then a road to cross at the traffic lights.

Drop-off Point (SEC Courtesy Shuttle Bus)

  • There is a designated drop-off point available.
  • The designated drop-off point is located in the rear SEC Centre car park, off Stobcross Road.
  • There is a dropped kerb without tactile paving from the drop-off point.
  • The rear car park is separately run but there is an agreement with the venue that it can be used for drop-offs for up to 30 minutes.
  • Customers can enter the SEC Centre here via its West Entrance and pass through to the main entrance which is close to the Hydro West Doors (SEC Bridge Side) entrance.
  • This can be around a 400 metre journey, so a regular courtesy shuttle (Gus the Bus) service is also available from the drop-off point.
  • There is a wheelchair space onboard which is accessed via a 79cm wide folding ramp.
  • The ramp is steep, although assistance is available.
  • There are two steps to access rear seating.

Entrance (East)

  • This entrance is located at the front of the building.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is step-free access via a very easy slope at the entrance.
  • There are double automatic doors at this entrance.
  • The doors open by sliding.
  • The width of the opening is 115cm.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is a second set of double automatic doors.
  • The second set of doors open by sliding.
  • The width of the opening is 115cm.
  • The second set of doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.

Entrance (West)

  • This entrance is located at the rear of the building.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is step-free access via a very easy slope at the entrance.

Lift (Loch Suite)

  • The lift surveyed is located off the main concourse, to the left.
  • The distance from the East entrance is 75m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access.
  • Levels 0 and 1 are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a high visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a medium visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 106cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 167cm (width) x 131cm (depth).
  • The internal lift control buttons have tactile markings and a medium visual contrast.
  • All of the internal lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • Internally the lift has: a mirror to aid reversing, a visual floor indicator and an audible announcer.

Stairs (Loch Suite)

  • The stairs surveyed are located to the left of the Loch Suite lift.
  • Levels 0 and 1 can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 20+ steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 17cm.
  • The depth of the steps is between 30cm and 45cm.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.
  • There are 2 further staircases within the Loch Suite.

Escalators (Loch Suite)

  • The escalators surveyed are located to the left before the Loch Suite lift.
  • Levels 0 and 1 are accessed by escalators.
  • The escalator steps are unmarked.
  • The foot (bottom) and head (top) of the escalators are not clearly marked.
  • Lighting levels vary due to the use of large glazed walls.

Lift (Meeting Academy)

  • The lift surveyed is located in the middle of the main concourse.
  • The distance from the East entrance is 115m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access.
  • Levels 0 and 1 are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a medium visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a low visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 79cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 104cm (width) x 149cm (depth).
  • The internal lift control buttons have tactile markings and a low visual contrast.

  • This entrance is located at the rear of the Armadillo on the first floor.

  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There are double manual doors at this entrance.
  • The doors open away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 232cm.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is a second set of double manual doors.
  • The second set of doors are permanently held open.
  • The width of the opening is 155cm.
  • The second set of doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.
  • The Crowne Plaza Hotel link also adjoins this area.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout all areas, this may include the use of a lift.
  • Access throughout may include manual doors and doors permanently held open.
  • Some flooring is shiny and patterned.
  • There is a high visual contrast between the walls and floor in the majority of walkways.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise.

  • The walls and floor have a high visual contrast.
  • There is background noise in this area which varies depending on the function/event.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey, with unshaded light sources.
  • Lighting levels are adjustable.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • Seating available in this area includes: chairs with armrests.
  • Some seating is fixed.
  • There are shows/talks with designated seating for wheelchair users.

Lift (Lomond Auditorium)

  • The lift surveyed is located to the rear side of the stage.
  • This lift is a platform lift.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access and manual doors.
  • The lift does not have a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The lift door opening width is 85cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 85cm (width) x 145cm (depth).
  • Internally the lift has: a separate door to exit.
  • Lighting levels were low at the time of the survey.
  • Lighting levels are adjustable.
  • This lift is operated by a member of staff and bypasses 6 steps used to access the stage.

Toilet with Adaptations (Loch Suite - Level 1 - Right Hand Transfer)
