Introduction

Outside Access (Rear Entrance)

Rose Bowl to Portland Road

  • Turn left and head towards Portland Way for approximately 41m.
  • The surface of the pavement is block paving until after 25m where it becomes brick block paving.
  • There are bollards as you approach Portland Road which have a width of 136cm.
  • There is a slight uphill gradient towards Portland Road.

Portland Way

  • Turn right when you reach Portland Road and use the pedestrian crossing to reach the other side.
  • There is tactile paving on either side of the road.
  • There are traffic lights at a height of 110cm.
  • There are rotating cones here.

Portland Way to Woodhouse Lane

  • Turn right up Portland Way for approximately 60m.
  • After reaching Woodhouse Lane turn left for 20m to reach the pedestrian crossing across Woodhouse Lane.
  • There is an uphill gradient.
  • The surface of the pavement is block paving with the occasional manhole cover.
  • There is a cobbled service road surface cobbled with drop kerbs either side after 13m.
  • After this continue up the hill until you come to the end of Portland Way at which point turn left.
  • Near the end of Portland Way is a telephone box and a section of tactile paving for a pedestrian crossing which you will need to overcome.
  • This strip of tactile paving is located just in front of the
  • Woodhouse Building City Bar entrance.
  • At the end of the road turn left and continue until you reach the pedestrian crossing.

Cross Woodhouse Lane

  • Use the pedestrian crossing to cross Woodhouse Lane.
  • There is tactile paving on either side of the road as well as on either side of the central island in the middle of the road.
  • The surface of the road is tarmac.
  • Traffic will be coming from your right as you approach the central island.
  • The surface of the paving on the central island is block paving.
  • Traffic approaches from the left between the central island and far side of the road.
  • The traffic lights have rotating cones.
  • The height of the controls is 112cm.

Woodhouse Lane

  • Turn left up Woodhouse Lane for approximately 140m.
  • After a small section of block paving, the surface of the pavement is tarmac.
  • There is a slight uphill gradient.
  • Continue along the road as you reach a bridge.
  • The width of the pavement will shrink slight due to the presence of a cycle path. The width of the road is still over 150cm at this point.
  • There is a raised area of tarmac as you cross the bridge.

Woodhouse Lane to Old Broadcasting House Accessible Entrance

  • Turn right into the vehicle entrance for Broadcasting Place.
  • The distance to the accessible entrance is approximately 45m.
  • The entrance is signposted.
  • The surface of the pavement to the entrance is tarmac.
  • This area is not particularly busy at most times of the day but it is advised that pedestrians approach with caution.
  • There is a slight uphill gradient into Broadcasting Place.
  • The surface of Broadcasting Place is brick block paving.

Old Broadcasting Place Accessible Entrance to Broadcasting Place

  • Continue for 16m from the accessible entrance to the rear of car park near Broadcasting Tower and then turn left into Broadcasting Place.
  • The surface of Broadcasting Place is brick block paving.
  • There is a slight downhill gradient towards Broadcasting Place.
  • As you enter Broadcasting Place the Broadcasting Place Humanities Building will be on the left and the Broadcasting Place Arts Building is located to your right.

Outside Access (Main Entrance)

    • There is ramped/sloped access at this entrance.

    • The door(s) is/are push pad activated.
    • The door(s) is / are single.
    • The width of the door opening is 100cm (3ft 3in).

    • There is a ramp/slope at this entrance.
    • The ramp/slope is located in front of the entrance.
    • The ramp/slope gradient is easy.
    • The ramp is permanent.

    • There is a heavy revolving door to the right of the entrance with a width of 157cm.
