Introduction

  • The following information describes the Shopping Area from Barking Train Station to Ripple Road.
  • This route is approximately 1 mile (1609m) in length.
  • The route takes approximately 10-15 minutes to walk.
  • The route leads you past several bus stops on nearby roads such as Barking Station(Stop H) and Vicarage Field Shopping Centre(Stop EN).
  • The surface of paths along the route consists of tarmac and block paving and is a mixture of pedestrian only and main roads
  • The potential hazards on this route include; busy roads, side roads, congested pathways, steep and slight slopes, several crossing point and uneven pathways.
  • The guide is split into the following sections:-
  • 1 Station Parade to Cambridge Road.
  • 2 Station Parade - Cambridge Road Junction.
  • 3 Cambridge Road Junction to Ripple Road.
  • 4 Ripple Road to Vicarage Drive.
  • 5 Ripple Road - Vicarage Drive Junction.
  • 6 Vicarage Drive Junction to St Paul's Road Roundabout.

Getting Here

  • By Car
  • The shopping area surveyed is located on mainly Station Parade and Ripple Road which is approximately 1.2 miles from the A13(Alfred's Way) which gives you direct links east to the M25 and west to central London.
  • By Bus
  • There are several bus stops on nearby roads around the shopping area such as Barking Station(Stop K) and Westbury Road(Stop T) at the southern end of the route, With direct links available to Dagenham, Ilford and East Ham.

  • By Train
  • Barking Station is located at the top of Station Parade.
  • There are direct services to London Fenchurch, Grays, Tilbury and Leigh-on-Sea.
  • There is step-free access to all platforms by ramps/slopes
  • Staff are available to assist with boarding via ramps.

Parking - Station Parade

  • Public Car Parks.
  • There are public car parks available near Station Parade, including the Bobby Moore car park located off Axe Street and the Vicarage Field shopping centre car park located off either Ripple Road or Station Parade.
  • On Street Parking.
  • There is very limited standard and Blue Badge bays located on Ripple Road.

Parking - Ripple Road

  • Public Car Parks.
  • There are public car parks available near Station Parade and Ripple Road, including the Bobby Moore car park located off Axe Street and the Vicarage Field shopping centre car park located off either Ripple Road or Station Parade.

  • There is very limited standard and Blue Badge bays located on Ripple Road.

1 Station Parade to Cambridge Road

  • The distance between Barking Station(Station Parade) to the Cambridge Road junction is approximately 225metres.
  • From the station this is on a slight downhill slope.
  • As you head towards Cambridge Road you will pass one crossing.
  • The crossing has lights and tactile paving on both sides.
  • The pathways on both sides of the road in this section are formed of concrete tiles/block paving.
  • The pathways can be uneven in places.
  • There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as signs, cash points, railings, cycle racks, bus stops, bins and signboards.
  • On the train station side there are no side roads before Cambridge Road.
  • There are several bus stops located directly out side the train station.
  • There is no seating available.
  • There is large information boards located on the path.

2 Station Parade - Cambridge Road Junction

  • Cambridge Road is located on the right as you head from Barking train station.
  • There is a zebra crossing located at the top of Cambridge Road where it joins onto Station Parade.
  • Both sets of crossings have tactile paving on both sides.
  • The pathway on both sides of the crossing is stone/concrete paving slabs.
  • The pathway may be uneven in places.
  • There is no seating available at this junction.

3 Cambridge Road Junction to Ripple Road

  • From the junction at Cambridge Road/Station Approach to Ripple Road is approximately 324 metres.
  • This is a level road.
  • The pathway surface consists of stone/concrete paving slabs and bricks.
  • The pathway may be uneven in places.
  • There is no seating located on either side of the road.
  • There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as signs, cash points, railings, cycle racks, bus stops, bins and signboards.

4 Ripple Road to Vicarage Drive

  • Ripple Road is approximately 550 meters from Barking train station.
  • From Barking train station this is a slightly downhill road.
  • Ripple Road pathways consist of stone/concrete paving slabs and bricks.
  • Pathway surfaces may be uneven in places.
  • There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as signs, cash points, railings, cycle racks, bus stops, bins and signboards.
  • There is concrete block seating available on both sides of the road.
  • There is a crossing point before Vicarage drive with tactile paving on either side.
  • There are bus stops located on Ripple Road.
  • Vicarage Drive is approximately 200 metres from the junction of Station Parade and Ripple Road.

5 Ripple Road - Vicarage Drive Junction

  • The Ripple Road - Vicarage Drive Junction is located on the right side of Ripple Road as you approach Station Parade.
  • There is a marked crossing point at the end of Vicarage Road. This crossing point has no lights.
  • There is tactile dropped kerbs on either side of the road.
  • The pathway consists of stone/concrete paving slabs.
  • The pathway may be uneven in places.
  • Vicarage Drive leads to the Vicarage Field Shopping Centre lower car park.

6 Vicarage Drive Junction to St Paul's Road Roundabout

  • Vicarage Drive Junction to St Paul's Road Roundabout is approximately 210 metres.
  • The pathways on both sides of the road consist of stone/concrete paving slabs and bricks.
  • The pathways may be uneven in places.
  • There are bus stops located on this road.
  • There is some seating available on Ripple Road.
  • There is large information boards with maps located on Ripple Road.
  • There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as signs, cash points, railings, cycle racks, bus stops, bins and signboards.
  • There is a crossing with lights located after the Vicarage Drive junction.
  • This crossing has tactile paving on either side.
  • There is limited standard parking and 1 Blue Badge bay located on Ripple Road.
