Introduction

  • The A205 Kew Road in Kew is located northeast of Richmond and south of Gunnersbury, close to the River Thames. The M4 is just 0.7 miles away. This guide covers the main shopping area of the High Street. This guide runs from the junction of Cambridge Road and the A205 Mortlake Terrace at its southeast side and runs to the junction of Kew Green and the A205 Kew Road. This is approximately 0.1 miles (160 metres) long and takes 2-3 minutes to walk. The shopping area is generally level with some slight slopes. Footpaths are of concrete paving slabs. The footpaths do have some uneven sections which include some raised manhole covers. The road surfaces are tarmac with tactile paving at all crossing points. There are limited opportunities to sit and rest.

Getting Here

  • By Car:
  • A205 Kew Road in Kew is located approximately 0.7 miles from the M4 Junction 1 via the A205 Kew Road and the A205 Chiswick High Road.
  • A205 Kew Road in Kew runs from north to south.
  • At the north end it becomes the A205 Chiswick High Road and heads towards Gunnersbury.
  • At the south end it separates into two roads.
  • One is the A307 Kew Road towards Richmond and the other is the A205 Mortlake Terrace towards Mortlake.
  • Parking:
  • There is limited on-street parking available on Kew Green and Cambridge Road.
  • By Bus:
  • There is a bus stop on both sides of the road on the nearby A307 Kew Road.
  • By Train and Tube:
  • Kew Gardens Station is located to the south of the A205 Kew Road on Layton Place.
  • There is step-free access to the platforms at this station.

Parking

  • On-street parking:
  • There are some standard on-street parking bays on Cambridge Road and Kew Green.
  • There is no charge for these parking bays.
  • Blue Badge holders may park in any of the bays for an unlimited period.
  • There are no dropped kerbs from the bays to the pavement.

Junction - A205 Mortlake Terrace and Cambridge Road

  • The A205 Mortlake Terrace and Cambridge Road meet next to Lloyds of Kew Bookshop.
  • The footpaths in this area are concrete paving slabs or block paving.
  • The footpaths are uneven at this junction with some raised manhole covers and uneven slabs on the pathway.
  • There is a slight slope uphill from Cambridge Road along the A205 Mortlake Terrace.
  • There are dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides to cross Cambridge Road and the A205 Mortlake Terrace.

Cambridge Road to A307/A205 Kew Road via A205 Mortlake Terrace

  • There are railings between the footpath and the road close to the junction at both ends.
  • This railing runs the entire length of this section of the route.
  • The footpaths have a slight slope uphill from Cambridge Road to the junction of the A307 and A205 Kew Road.
  • The pathway on the left is only 92cm in width throughout.

Junction – A205 Mortlake Terrace and A307/A205 Kew Road

  • The A205 Mortlake Terrace meets the A307/A205 Kew Road next to Dexter's Estate Agents.
  • Footpaths in this area are concrete paving slabs or block paving.
  • There is a slight slope uphill from the A205 Mortlake Terrace to this junction.
  • There are two pedestrian crossings with dropped kerbs and tactile paving.
  • Both crossings have a central refuge at the crossing.
  • There are push buttons available at the pedestrian crossings with audible and visual signals.

A205 Mortlake Terrace to Kew Green via A205 Kew Road
