Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, binoculars, magnifying glass, soft toy, torch and accessible maps.
  • You can borrow these from the visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a mobility scooter. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (Walled Garden)

  • Turn right out of the visitor reception exit up a slight slope and right again along the tarmac road to the house.
    Take the path to the left of the house towards the rear of the house.
    When you reach the rear of the house turn right.
    Once you are passed the house turn left before the bridge archway, and take the far right hand entrance into the Exotic Garden via a green archway.
    Follow the path passed the garden rooms, then turn right into the entrance to the Walled Garden via a stone archway.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, concrete and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located to the rear of the Walled Garden.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The width of the gap is 125cm.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass and gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are less than 3 steps without handrails and slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • Throughout the Walled Garden area and in front of the Glass House.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
