Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a mountain trike and manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, binoculars, magnifying glass, activity sheets, soft toy, torch, communication cards and accessible maps.

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper and mobility scooters. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (Wild Garden and Wild Estate)

  • From the car park Blue Badge bays the path to the parkland is to the right.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces (Wild Garden and Wild Estate)

  • This information is for the access point located to the right of the car park.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • There are bollards at the access point which have a minimum width of 169cm and are 106cm high.
  • The bollards do not contrast visually with the paving.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: parkland, woodland and open countryside.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, bonded gravel and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails and slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • There are steep slopes and ramps on pathways throughout the Wild Garden and Wild Estate.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Hikes and Trails

  • The walk is approximately 3 miles.
  • From the Visitor Reception entrance follow the path past the shops and at the intersection, turn right.
    Follow the path, take the next left and go past the bollard which has a width of approximately 147cm either side of it.
    Follow the path for approximately 1.5 miles until you come to the end, turn around and reverse the route back to the start.
  • The walk is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: bonded gravel.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients and very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: the path along the accessible route.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards with large maps, handheld maps and online maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
