Access To

  • The library is accessed on level 4 of the Institute of Education building.
    The library is arranged over 3 floors, designated levels 3, 4, and 5.
    There is no access between the main building and the library on levels 3 and 5.

  • The most accessible route has step-free level access, a platform lift and shiny flooring.
  • The platform lift is located at the far end of the IOE Café on level 3, on the right after the main entrance off Bedford Way.
    There is alternative lift access via the Core A or Core B lifts with manual doors on the route to the library.
    There is alternative step-free access off the Gordon Square entrance to the rear of the Institute of Education.
  • There is written text signage on or near the entrance.
  • There is step-free level access into the library.
  • There are double automatic doors which open towards you.

  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).

Stairs

  • The handrails are not easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.

  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.

Toilet with Adaptations (Level 3 - Left Hand Transfer - Shared Toilet)

    • The distance from the lift is 5m.
    • The most accessible route to the toilet has step-free level access.
    • There is step-free level access into the facility.
    • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
    • The door opens outwards and has a high visual contrast.
    • The width of the door opening is 93cm.
    • The door has a lever twist lock.
    • Internally the door has a high visual contrast.
    • There is a grab rail on the internal door with a high visual contrast.
  • Dimensions and Features View
    • The dimensions of the cubicle are 137cm (width) x 191cm (depth) and there is not room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is a lateral transfer space to the left as you face the toilet, however it is obstructed.
