Introduction

  • Services / facilities within the building include academic offices, assistive technology rooms, bars, bookshop, cafĂ©s, committee rooms, computer cluster, computer rooms, conference office, design and drama studios, lecture theatres, library, media booths, media centre, medical room, multi-faith prayer room, post room, social learning space, the Students' Union (including student helpdesk), and teaching rooms.
  • Faculties include the Academic Programmes Office; Academic Writing Centre; Art, Design and Museology; Catering Department; Centre for Research and Development in Catholic Education (CRDCE); College of Teachers; Culture, Communication and Media; Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment (including the Science Learning Centre London SLCL); Directorate; Doctoral School; Early Years and Primary Education; Estate Services; Human Resources and Staff Development; Humanities and Social Sciences; Information Technology; International Office; Lifelong and Comparative Education; the London Centre for Leadership in Learning; and Media Services.
  • The Institute of Education is arranged into three core areas designated Core A, Core B and Core C. Facing the building on Bedford Way, Core A is to the left (south) end of the building, and Core C is to the right (north) end of the building. The main entrance on Bedford Way provides access to level 3 between Core A and Core B. There was no access to Core A levels 8 and 9 at the time of survey (12/06/2023). Core A extends into Core A Wing to the rear (west side) of the building on levels 2 and 3, and into the rear (west side) of the building on level 4. There is an alternative entrance to the rear (west side) of the building off Thornhaugh Street, providing access to the Core A Wing on level 3. Some areas in Core B on level 4 at the top of The Logan Hall stairs, the top of the foyer right stairs, and near the entrance to the library remained in a state of refurbishment at the time of survey (12/06/2023). Entrances near Core C lifts and stairs on level 3 upwards connect to UCL Division of Psychology and Language Sciences, 26 Bedford Way, which is not included in this guide; see the separate link for more information about the UCL Division of Psychology and Language Sciences. Core C entrances into the UCL Division of Psychology and Language Sciences may require a key card, or could be locked.

    • This guide is arranged into the order of services and facilities in Core A, then Core A Wing and Core A rear (west side), then Core B, and then Core C.

Location of Toilet/Changing Facilities

  • Changing Places facilities are located in Core A on level 1, near to The Logan Hall.
  • Accessible toilet facilities are located in Core A on levels 1 and 4; in the Core A Wing on levels 2 and 3, and to the rear (west side) of Core A on level 4; in Core B on level 1, levels 3 to 9, and level 3 of the library; and in Core C on levels 2 to 4. The accessible toilet in Core B on level 3 was being refurbished at the time of survey (12/06/2023).
  • Shared standard toilet facilities are located in Core A on levels 1 and 4; in the Core A Wing on level 2, and to the rear (west side) of Core A on level 4; in Core B on all levels; and in Core C on levels 2 to 4. There are ambulant cubicles in the shared standard toilets in the Core A Wing on level 4; in Core B on levels 2 to 9; and in Core C on levels 2 and 3. There are amenity facilities in the shared standard toilets in Core B on levels 6 and 7..
  • Female and male standard toilet facilities are located in Core A on levels 1 to 5, and levels 7 to 9; and in Core C on levels 7 and 9. The female and male standard toilets in Core A on levels 4 and 7 were being refurbished at the time of survey (12/06/2023)..
  • Female standard toilet facilities are located in Core C on level 6.
  • Parent and baby changing facilities are located in Core C on level 4.

  • By Road View
    • The Institute of Education is located in the Bloomsbury area of Central London, just north of Russell Square. If you are driving to the Institute, please be aware that it is located within the Congestion Charge Zone.

    • Bus stops Russell Square Bus Stop E is served by buses 10 and 188. Russell Square Bus Stops H and J, which are located on Woburn Place, are served by buses 10, 59, 68, 91, 168, N91.

    • Euston, St Pancras International and King's Cross stations are close to the Institute. However, all of the London Terminal stations are within reach of the Institute using public transport.
